Public areas are better than the rooms
The public areas of the hotel reflect the history of the hotel and are above the standard you might expect from a hotel in this price band.
Unfortunately the room I stayed in seemed rather dated. If you can get a room that doesn't face the main road, it might be a little quieter.
Lovely big rooms with view of the city.
The only negative is that the hotel bar shut at 11.30!
Royal Station Hotel
Second time we have stayed & again enjoyed it.
I normally stay further out of town but this hotel is 5 minutes walk from the centre and I've never stayed there before.
Grand entrance with lovely victorian staircase and good enough sized rooms to use as a base for exploring the finer side of Newcastle. The rear facing rooms overlook the ends of the station platforms so you do get train noise but it's not something I noticed. Breakfast was more than enough to last several hours. The Metro is right outside for getting around and for night times there are several decent bars in the area. The staff are lovely.
Royal Station Hotel
Extremely convenient for the railway station, although the entrance steps could prove a problem for anyone with physical difficulties and a heavy suitcase.
I loved the early morning sound of shunting trains below my bedroom window!
Superb value for money in the heart of Newcastle
Excellent comfortable room which was well maintained throughout the stay.
Breakfasts were filling with very good service from the staff. Sports centre was never too busy and one of the best hotel sports centres I have experienced. I will certainly return to what is becoming a favourite hotel in a favourite city.
Enjoyable stay at a great location.
The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring Newcastle on foot.
5 minute walk to the station and nightlife. Unfortunately, all car parking spots were taken so I had to pay an additional £16 to park by the hotel which was less than ideal. Overall a great place for a weekend break, although 15 car parking spaces is far too few for a hotel this size.
Beautiful hotel, friendly, pleasant and helpful staff.
Room large, very clean and comfortable. Will be booking again.
Lovely period hotel and welcoming staff
The hotel really is stunning, it was tastefully decorated for the festive season which combined with the building's period features made it a really impressive place to stay.
The location (right next to the station) is ideal and such a short walk from the main city centre or over the river to The sage.
I was pleasantly surprised to find complimentary wine and chocolates on the bed, with more wine in the fridge. Not sure if this is normal or part of the New Year celebrations. Use of the leisure facilities the next day are also included.
I really enjoyed my stay in the hotel and would use it again if I visit Newcastle again.
Simply ( red ) fantastic
