Comfortable Stay

A lovely and very friendly place to say.

We were on a budget and required a hotel close to Durham. We were pleasantly surprised with the facilities for the money we paid. Although we only had the continental style breakfast, we did see the full english that another guest has upgraded to and it was definitely worth the cost. All the staff we had contact with made us feel very welcome. Would definitely stay again.

The Bay Horse Inn

This is simple accommodation for a budget price.

Ideal for a short visit to Durham & Northumberland. Excellent local bus service into Durham. Food is very good, cooked breakfast available for £3.95, portions can be large for the small appetite.

Good cheap accomdation

Lovely home cream of chicken soup Friday Night.

We had a problem with room as had a damp patch near the bathroom so landlady moved us on the following night,

Rooms were basic but OK clean and tidy, Décor was a bit dated but not a problem for the price. Overall a good cheap place to stay.

The Bay Horse Inn

It was great value for money - clean, friendly.

We weren't looking for luxury and lots of things we wouldn't use so it was fine.

The Bay Horse Inn

Food a bit hit and miss, breakfast was included, but it wasn't a cooked one, this was extra.

OK but should be more visible on website. Didn't do food on a sun evening.

Good Value

Stayed one night having been to see Kynren.

Room good value for the price. Bathroom probably needs a refurb in the near future. Ate in the pub in the evening, food very good. Breakfast was £3.95 extra but excellent value for money. Handily placed for Durham city and for other places in the NE.

wedding anniverary stay

Settled inwell.

large room with extra beds .Ideal for a family stay. But no wardrobe. only a rail..o.k. for us as a short stay..but not suitable for a large family stay. food average.. breakfast o.k. included (cortinental).Extra for "Big breakfast" Had this on final day. Scrambled egg great. but bacon was overdone. overall a handy place to stay to visit Durham and surrounding areas. Would benefit from a bit of T.Lc. Must say excellent value for money and very helpful staff.

A pleasant enough stay

I only needed a comfy night's stay so the place was ok for that.

Manager was nice and room ok. I was surprised that a cooked breakfast wasn't included and to have one was extra so I just had the basic cereal and toast offered. It was in a handy spot for me. I may use it again.

Bay Horse Inn

This review is written a couple of weeks after our stay because I first wrote to the management to give them the opportunity to answer our complaints.

We paid £89 for our room (and breakfast) before being given the key. The room was very dirty and had not been prepared properly for customers by the cleaner and obviously had not been checked by the management. The staff when seeing the state of the room moved us to another room. The carpet in this room was also very dirty and stained. The mattress on the double bed had no mattress protector, just a sheet over the mattress, which did not protect against staining on the mattress. The springs coming through gave us a very uncomfortable night's sleep. Leaving early, we knew that we were unable to have breakfast, but we would have had to have paid extra for a full English breakfast. Having written to the manageress, she offered us a free night's stay at the pub, which we declined because we have no reason to travel all the way to Durham again. I had hoped the management would make some recompense for us having to pay £89 for a substandard room. The room was not worth £89. The following week the room would have cost us a third of this price. (The usual price for the room). The price had apparently been raised to take advantage of the demand for accommodation required for graduation week at Durham University.
