About the hotel

The awe-inspiring sense of history greets you as you enter The Dolphin Tavern, with the past echoing in the aged granite walls, the intriguing shipping artifacts, and a warm atmosphere that makes you feel immediately at home. In 1585 the tavern served as John Hawkin's HQ, recruiting Cornishmen to fight in the Armada, Sir Walter Raleigh is thought to have smoked the first pipe of tobacco in England here, and the tavern was used as a courtroom for centuries following. So legend says, it is also home to three spirits.

This long and colourful history makes a visit to The Dolphin Tavern a unique experience.

Bus stop to Scilly Isle

The landlord said he felt like a bus stop to the Scilly Isles.

However, it was a very convenient bus stop. On the sea front close to the Scillonian ferry. The staff were extremely welcoming, even the young guys. They had automatically saved me a table for dinner and were attentive at all times. The same was true at breakfast. The room was spacious and overlooked the harbour. It had all facilities needed nd was comfortable

Too short a stay!

Excellent room with beautiful shower room.

Food really good. Staff friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Pub in very convenient spot for exploring Penzance and surroundings. Lovely views across Mounts Bay. Hopefully will return there soon!
