About the hotel
Welcome to a little bit of luxury in the beautiful Somerset village of Wedmore. Our Grade II Listed home was transformed by us and our philosophy is simple: You are staying with us in our home, so please just ask us for anything you need. The luxury is in the choice of food, the wine, the bed linen, the art on the walls and the people looking after you.
Our look is a mix of old and new furniture and art; combining colours and beautiful fabrics with original vintage features and existing distressed walls. We serve Real Ales from the cask, Sharpe’s Doom Bar & Guest Ales as well as Thatcher’s Ciders, with Wilkins cider available seasonally. We also serve a fine selection of continental lagers. Our food ingredients are sourced as locally as possible, and Seasonal produce is put to full use by by our award-winning head chef Richard Sampson and his team, allowing us to create great tasting food whilst maintaining variety.

Excellent venue, terrible service
I must start by saying that the rooms, food, pub and location are delightful.
The vast majority of people will have a great experience. However our experience was a classic case of how well (or not) a hotel manages clients when things go wrong. We arrived having spent most of the day outside on a bitter Winters day. We were delighted to be offered the best room in the hotel, and indeed it was lovely. However there was no heating in and the room was freezing cold (to save money apparently). We asked if there was another room but were told it would soon warm up. We decided to wait downstairs in the bar (no offer of a drink to while our time). While downstairs we were introduced to the landlord and landlady and we asked them to check the room in case. They agreed it was not acceptable and told us they would arrange for a second heater to be put in. After an hour downstairs we went back to our room to find it had improved from freezing to very cold. We were so tired that we just got into bed fully clothed and cuddled up to watch TV for the hour before dinner. At no time did anyone come and check if things had improved. We had a lovely dinner and started to thaw nicely. On returning to the room it was still too cold and at this point I just lost my cool a little too. I went back to the bar and found another person who was the first one to actually really put some effort in. I asked (for the third time) if there was no chance of moving or doing something to significantly improve the heating. She immediately showed us another room. On the way we stopped and checked the boiler which was very low on pressure and needed to be topped up. The new room had no heating but it was significantly warmer than our room and because it was smaller it would heat up. So we moved rooms and within an hour the room was lovely and warm. Eventually we had a great nights sleep. This was a classic example of no one taking responsibility to rectify a tiny problem that had a big impact on the quality of our experience, or to listen when we requested another room, or to try to make amends during the process.
The George Inn
Staff were great.
There was a girl, I think her name was Georgette, sorry if I've got the name wrong. But she was very helpful. Only thing was the television was so small in a very big room. However, It's a lovely place to stay. Had a plenty of orbs in my room, very entertaining.
