About the hotel

Fourteen minutes from Bath and set in rolling green, Somerset hills, this 700 year old inn has much to delight - it is a feast for the eyes and boasts every traditional comfort. Character bedrooms with beams and antique furniture, cosy bars, an ancient galleried courtyard, and wonderful food (We strive to source our produce locally and endeavor to make everything here on site) served in a choice of beamed dining rooms. The George, a grade one star listed building is situated in an idyllic setting with beautiful views.

Our garden overlooks the village church against a backdrop of un-spoilt rural scenery. In the adjoining field there is a children’s playground. The Plaine Guesthouse also forms part of the business and has been refurbished in a contemporary style and the six rooms have been added to the accommodation offer in Norton St Philip. Should the rooms at the George be reserved you will be directed to the rooms at the Plaine. The Plaine does not accept dogs, so please give us a call to see if your room is suitable for dogs. Norton St Philip village is a real find as it has come through the centuries remarkably undisturbed. Architecturally, you can see mullion windows, stone-tiled roofs and the local stone facings of the cottages. There are medieval buildings and a number of cottages built in 17th and 18th centuries. The local country side is intersected by footpaths and bridleways which are great for walks and discovering our local wildlife. The George is dog friendly, and there is a small charge of £10 extra for them to stay with you in our wooden floored rooms. The George Inn and the Plaine are in a stunning setting and a perfect location for a varied and interesting break. Safety: The George Inn is over 700 years old, we ask you to take care as there are many low beams and uneven and cobbled floors. Please note that our rooms can be booked at room only or With breakfast. Please give us a call if you would rather speak to one of our team.

The Inn is an amazing building it's like being transported back in time. Lovely rooms.Excellent food

We stayed in the George Inn which is a fantastic old building with dark oak interiors and bedrooms filled with period furniture.

The food was lovely and served very quickly. There was a good choice of breakfast options. There is a great view from the beer garden across the fields to the church and the village is worth a walk around. Just be aware that the George also own the Plaine guesthouse, which is a Georgian house over the road (which also looks very nice). If you want to make sure you have a room in the Inn I would recommend that you phone the George Inn directly rather than using an on line booking agency, to ensure you get the room you want. Also not all rooms have breakfast included in the price, so check this as well. The Inn is 7 miles south of Bath.
