St Marys Gate Inn
The four poster room has no period charm at all and the mattress was well passed its replace by date.
So we asked to be moved to the annex. Much better room except for the fact that the shower plug hole was blocked and the water is on a very noisy pump, so do not use the water during sleeping hours. The pillows where hopeless too. Breakfast was OK. The bar would be good for an evening of drinking, however we found others in the High Street which tempted us more.
Did the staff forget to set their alarms?
It's a busy place in a nice setting but I must have drawn the short straw.
Where was everyone in the morning. I was told breakfast was from 8, nobody was there at 8, or half past or even 9 when I had to leave for work. As I did so there was a couple still waiting outside for their breakfast - did the chef and waiting staff oversleep. Who knows but they owe me one breakfast. Luckily I paid on arrival so just left my keys by the card machine in the deserted bar before I left - hungry and grumpy.
