Weekend in Carlisle.
My fiancée and I stayed at this lovely old hotel for the weekend.
After reading some slightly negative reviews about the standard of some of the rooms we were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the room we were given. The décor and facilities were modern, clean and up to date. The maid service was very good with clean towels every day and the bathroom was also cleaned daily. The only fault we could find was the mattress, it was very bouncy (trampoline-like) but it didn't stop us getting a good nights sleep. The breakfast (if a little pricey if not booked beforehand) was tasty and hot with a good selection of hot and cold buffet choices. The staff were helpful and friendly, the addition of a complementary glass of wine at check-in made the stay very relaxing and enjoyable.
Crown & Mitre Hotel
Excellent location with free parking and upgraded bedrooms.
The staff were great, very friendly. Free car park was excellent and the guy who met up offered to take in our luggage. We had an upgraded room which was great, there is a lot of evidence of work going on. The location is brilliant, easy walking to the centre, bars and restaurants. The only downside, and a big one when you are treating yourself to a weekend away was the quality of the breakfast. We were crammed in a meeting room, we hade to squeeze past tables to get to the buffet tables. the food choice was very limited and poor. There were four in our party and only two eggs and one piece of black pudding with no signs of a top up. My bacon was hard and tasteless. we paid extra for breakfast - it was not worth it.
