Kelvin Hotel West End

For a two night visit I paid £75, and it was worth every penny.

The staff were lovely, very welcoming. For a 19 year old traveling alone it can be hard staying in a hotel on your own, but I felt very safe, comfortable and I could have happily stayed there longer. The shared bathroom was no issue, I found it very clean and did not mind sharing with other people on my floor. Would recommend to anyone.

Disappointing

On arrival we were told that the breakfast we had paid for in advance was 'continental' and we would have to pay another £3 per person for cooked breakfast.

I feel it would be more honest to state this at time of booking and not spring it on you as an 'extra' on arrival. I heard other guests in the dining room say the same thing as staff went round asking guests for 'another £3 please'. We heard that phrase a lot during our one night stay. Second thing was on arrival reception tried to charge us £2.50 for paying with credit card. Again, I saw no mention of this at booking time and it's not something I have ever been asked for in other hotels. So, the reason that we will not go back to this hotel is that we got the feeling from the first moment we arrived that we were being asked for more money than we thought the hotel would cost. I found it a bit petty. Also the continental breakfast was very basic and included one if my pet hates in hotels, orange juice that was either watered down or of very poor quality. Again it seemed petty. Room was clean but a bit cramped, reception was unmanned a couple of times when we went there. Waiting staff were very pleasant and efficient but I eventually told them I was vegetarian so I would stop being told 'it's only £3 to upgrade to cooked breakfast'. We won't be back.
