Breakfast wasn't that great not very hot but was a decent selection
Very clean hotel, the downfall we thought was that there were no lifts to take us up one level to our room.
(Because of wearing a fracture boot). Also had to walk out in open to go to breakfast.
Very disappointing, dirty bedsheets, room not as pictured
Deeply disappointing, poor rooms and poor staff.
In my first room the bedsheets were dirty with both hair inside the covers and strange clusters of brown dots on the bottom sheet -yuck. Also the pillows were not big and fluffy but were as thin as ruler.
The carpet was badly stained in several areas with questionable brown marks and the bottom of the 'white' shower curtain -was brown with dirt, fixings were hanging off (the toilet role holder and curtain the backs) and the menu card in the room was sticky with some type of food.
That was my 'first room' In the 'prison block' style building at the back of the main pretty and historical building I saw in the pictures for ponsbourne park hotel -where I thought I would be staying. The block looks and feels like a care home which had been poorly maintained. Curtain tie backs were hanging off by threads, there was no spoons to mix tea and a no night lights. I was particularly unhappy with the staining and lack of cleanliness in the room and simply couldn't sleep in dirty sheets if nothing else, therefore having read numerous reviews from people equally unhappy who had managed to switch there rooms I plucked up the courage to do the same.
Eventually staff arranged an alternative room in the main building which was bigger, but sadly not much better. If you want peace and quiet and privacy -then I wouldn't recommend this hotel. I could hear people ahem... Having some private time in their room across the hall, as there is nearly a 1inch gap under all of the room doors, so take earplugs.
The second thankfully had clean sheets, albeit they had come apart at the seams. Also some of the pillows were markedly more plump thankfully. There was still numerous carpet stains and treads showing in the second room, odd fitting blinds, an ugly wire and electrical box in the middle of the wall facing the bed and even after having housekeeping clean the room twice, the bathroom tiles were still covered in scum -there before I arrived and the desk covered in cup stains on the units. One of the light bulbs was out above the desk which wasn't a problem for me however someone who had to use the desk to work may have struggled.
I was also particularly annoyed that although I'd booked a room for two adults (as my partner joined me later in the week) that they only provided one hand towel, one bath mat and one large towel and I had to ask twice for additional towels. Also the second room had some 'b&m shop ornaments' including a cracked brown glitter bowl and matching vase and fake flowers covered in dust in the bathroom. There was also an odd tiny candle holder gathering dust with no candles to use with it - just odd. Not very de vere!.
Being 5'6 myself, meant standing under the fixed shower head, it was only 2 inches higher than me which meant when my partner tried to shower (he is 6 foot) he had to bend and duck down to fit underneath it. One good thing is that they provide free 'just add boiling water' porridge in a cardboard cups with plastic spoons in the foyer, not quite a full English and very boring for the five days that I was there, but better than nothing.
Regarding wifi, you have to re-login everyday from each device, as it doesn't allow devices to log in for more than one day at a time and the connection isn't particularly fantastic,
Also be prepared to walk up numerous stairs with all your bags and then have to walk back down again to try to get you door key card to work again. Everyday the housekeeping cleaned for us (two days) our key card didnt work afterwards which was very frustrating having been out all day. I was at the ponsbourne park hotel on holiday and it was ruined by the state of the rooms, the hotel was mostly empty when I was there apart from two days when it filled up with people doing their speed awareness course nearby.
If you need to use this hotel for work then beware the 20 minute journey to potters bar realistically takes 45 minutes anytime between 8&9.30am (I travelled at different times between these hours for five days -Monday to Friday) during my stay. However if you are will to travel in the evening then there are some lovely restaurants half an hour from the hotel.
Lastly, I will just say that if you are given the option to pay for your room first or to wait until the end of the week then wait until the end of the week so that you can see your room first before you pay and cancel to rebook elsewhere if you feel it's necessary.
I was so unhappy with my rooms that I tried to cancel my booking and rebook at another local hotel instead, but as I'd opted to pay up-front I couldn't cancel the booking for a full refund so had to put up with it.
This hotel might be good for hens/stags but you might get noise complaints as you can hear all of your neighbours conversations word for word without anyone raising their voice.
Good value hotel in a beautiful setting
Excellent room and service in a beautiful setting. Places to walk and several country pubs nearby.

Only problem was breakfast.
I like fruit for breakfast, lack of it. Not much of it or choice, not even bananas or grapes, very disappointed with that.

Spent our 25th Wedding Anniversary here.
Lovely room, very good food in the Bistro and a great range of choice at breakfast. The room was excellent and the reception staff helpful.
Very enjoyable stay, comfortable and enjoyed visit.
Great Setting and Friendly Staff
The hotel is a lovely period property set in peaceful woodland.
The staff are friendly and we had a large room with a nice view overlooking the pitch and put. The evening meal was delicious but we were disappointed with the breakfast. The cooked breakfast was prepared rather than cooked fresh with a limited choice. My partner and I had stomach issues following it. Also there were problems paying the bill due to a computer issue so check out took some time. Overall we had a good time and would recommend the hotel.
We are going back for more.
Delighted with our ovenight stay.
Staff were totally responsive, accomodation great, and the quiet of the countryside so relaxing. We are going back again!!!!
Pleasantly surprised, once I found the venue.
My limited / first time experience of this hotel was a positive one regarding all aspects except finding the location.
The Post Code provided takes you past the Hotel into a private road and stops outside a private house. I was a late night arrival having driven from Birmingham and there is only a small un-illuminated sign that points up a drive to the venue, which is not visible from the road at night. Consequently I drove right past it first time around. Other than that, the Receptionist was polite and cheerful, the tea & coffee facilities more than adequate, the Bed comfortable. The room was quiet and had both aircon and heating. Buffet Breakfast in the morning was first class and for the price paid via Laterooms.com, it was a very good deal, (cheaper than the Travelodge I stayed at the previous weekend and far superior in all respects.
