Parade Park

When we arrived at the hotel we were given a small double I had booked a twin room, the manager was very concerned that it had been booked as a double and was very apologetic.

I asked if there was a chance of booking a second night as late room didn't seem to help. The manager said he would have a look and we were able to stay but would have to change rooms. We paid for the second night and were told to leave our luggage and as soon as the room was ready the cases would be transferred. The managers and staff were so helpful that we are planning on going back for my big birthday in January.

Very central.

Good breakfast, helpful staff, but 66 steps to rooms.

Fine for a brief stay but feels more like a hostel than a hotel

Fine for a 'relatively' cheap night (by Bath standards) if you need a base in the city (and don't want to hang around in the hotel) but don't expect Georgian opulence that the website might have you believe.

Our room felt like a cheap dorm room, not anything like the smart rooms on the website. A huge bathroom but still only a shower over the bath. No fans or air conditioning meant that even on a mild September night, the room was hot. Hotel needs a good redecoration/refurb. Staff however were great and helped us with heavy bags up 4 flights of stairs. Breakfast was adequate although I'd probably expect pastries on a continental breakfast. Despite all the above, the location is unbeatable - a 2 minute walk from the baths, abbey and shopping/eating areas etc.

"This is a B & B. We're not a hotel."

That excuse - "We are not a hotel" - seemed to be the explanation for many things: the fact that the furniture seemed to have been stolen from the room (we had two upright chairs, two beds, a table and a very creaky wardrobe painted with dark brown, sticky varnish; no glasses, just a couple of plastics); the bathroom had paper foot mats; there was not one picture on the walls.

When we asked for a towelling bath mat, we were told that as this is a bed & breakfast, not a hotel, they didn't have any. I've stayed in many B & Bs; they do not use paper foot mats. However, we were supplied with a hand towel to use as a mat. The room was dull, shabby and very tired and needed fresh paint - as did the rest of the building. Breakfast consisted of the cheapest food: factory sliced bread, Golden Shred marmalade, tinned fruit, very weak coffee, and (a mystery) a pot of tea that was only warm: had they run out of boiling water. Despite the protestations, the prices are not B & B prices; they are "Bath Prices" - be warned. The building itself is an example of very elegant Georgian Bath architecture (which attracted us) but inside it is very neglected. A waste!

The room which I stayed in was badly in need of decorating, and they had paper bath mats to stop you slipping which was about as good as a chocolate tea cosy.

Champagne price/Pound shop accommodation

Family room booked & confirmed with cot [with baby to carry and buggy, heavy cases etc] six flights stairs no lift, minute room with no cot and no room for one [despite confirmation saying cot in room.

had to go out and buy travel cot!]. Hotel in desperate need of painting/cleaning/maintenance. Thoughts of "Faulty Towers". Breakfast poor..tinned fruit, cheap bread for toast[in this day and age??] Hotel Inspector programme would have a field day. On a positive note the staff were lovely and the room [on back of hotel] was quiet(mainly because hardly anybody else was staying surprise really)

Great position to explore Bath

Great spot to explore Bath - Car Parking is public behind the hotel block so not bad.

Its fine for a budget stay and reception very helpful. Breakfast is continental so be aware of that. Great spot if you just need a base and spend your time out in the Beautiful City. Reception very honest about rooms to front of hotel where the bar is as you would need to be a very heavy sleeper to accommodate. Lovely view from the front rooms.

It will be nice if it had lift in the hotel.

Girls on tour

The hotel was perfectly situated to enjoy all Bath has to offer the tourist, on foot.

It is near car parks, the tourist buses and taxi rank, so it suited our group of 6 ladies perfectly. There are no frills in the rooms and if you have difficulty with stairs you would have to request one of the few ground floor rooms as most are on upper floors. The staff we dealt with were exceptionally helpful and welcoming, allowing us to leave our bags prior to check in and after check out!
