About the hotel
Dating back to 947AD, the AA 5 Star Porch House is England’s oldest Inn – but don’t let this put you off, there are no draughty corridors and cobwebs here! This Inn is a great example of how period properties can be reimagined for the 21st century. Located just off the busy A46 in the centre of Stow on the Wold, a charmingly idyllic Cotswold town, The Porch House is only 40 minutes away from both the M40 and the M5, as well as Stratford-upon-Avon, and only an hour from Oxford. Gloucester and Cheltenham are also within easy reach, the drive to either will take you less than an hour.
There are 13 rooms here at the Inn, all varying in size and style, but all sympathetically renovated to make the most of the original features of the building. All the rooms come with free WiFi (available throughout the property), Nespresso coffee machines, handmade toiletries and a complimentary morning newspaper. Breakfast is included with all room rates, and as the Inn has also won an AA Breakfast award, it is not to be missed!
The pub serves lunch and dinner throughout the week, and all day on a Saturday and Sunday. The Inn have won 2 AA Rosettes for their food, and it is hardly any wonder when you look at the menu – the good quality ingredients and uncomplicated dishes are a treat for any palate, and you are sure to find something to tempt you.
There is plenty to do in the area, with its grand manors, sweeping gardens, quaint cottages and ancient woodlands, Stow on the Wold is the quintessential Cotswold town just waiting for you to explore. Attractions in the area include the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens (25 minutes away), Bourton Model Railway (10 minutes away), Cotswold Falconry Centre (15 minutes away) and the Corinium Museum (35 minutes away). Of course, there are plenty of local walks in the gorgeous Cotswold countryside for you to enjoy, as well as plenty of cycle routes for those that want to go a bit further afield. If you fancy a day at the races, courses at Cheltenham, Warwick and Stratford are all within easy reach.
The closest train stations to the Inn are Moreton-in-Marsh and Kingham, and the journey from either to the Inn will take you approximately 10-15 minutes in a car.
Unfortunately there is no parking on site, however there are spaces available in the village or Maugersbury Road Car Park on the outskirts of the village.
