Room was huge and well appointed with a few little extra touches that were much appreciated, home made biscuits and the room was turned down in the evening with a chocolate on the pillow.
Given the age of the building wifi was understandably a bit spotty as was phone reception ( some of the walls were a metre thick so not surprising that wireless connection dropped out occasionally)
Food was exceptional, both at breakfast and dinner, only tiny comment would be that over the 3 days we were there dinner menu didn't change. Highly recommended
Brilliant food, service, and room
We had a brilliant time at The Great House Hotel.
It was very easy to find, and a lovely looking place. We ate in the restaurant there and the food was superb. The service was also great and we felt well looked after, but also got given our own space. Would definitely recommend!
Not the best for the money. Noisy, cobwebs and musty smelling room
We stayed in the outside annexe room "lleft" the room was very dissapointing.
Cobwebs, musty smell and the bathroom was very poor condition. The room had dated decor and the noise from other rooms using taps etc was very loud. We booked this hotel on the basis it had a sauna and jacuzzi in the spa. We asked if there treatments available when calling but they were fully booked but we're told we could use the spa facilities. On arriving when we asked where the spa was we were told we couldn't use the sauna/jacuzzi as there were treatments booked but they would set it up for us at around 6pm. We had already arranged our meal for 7pm so this was no good. The evening meal was very good also the breakfast did not disappoint. There is nothing stating on the website that the spa facilities cannot be used if not having treatments.
We booked this hotel because it had a spa and although the treatments were fully booked we just wanted to have a relaxing day in the sauna/jacuzzi. We had narrowed the hotels down to two hotels and chose the wrong one. The staff did mention that there are refurbishments taking place to update the hotel so the rooms may improve but I can't see the noise from adjoining rooms changing as it is from the water pipes. Be warned that the noise is very loud as if they are in the same room!
Fab little hotel, great restaurant
Hetel staff couldn't do enough for us, inclding keeping the restaurant open to accommodate our very late arrival.
Food was fantastic, as you'd expect from a restaurant that appears in the michelin guide. Rooms were clean and very inkeeping with the style of the building. This is not an uber modern hotel so if that's what you're after it's not for you, but it is full of charm & character & the staff & food are both wonderful. Couldn;t fault it, would go again.
