About the hotel

Situated close to the border of Staffordshire and Derbyshire, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn makes an ideal base for exploring the wonderful countryside, towns, and villages of the Peak District and surrounding areas or the perfect place to stop for an excellent meal and refreshing drink as you pass through in the car or on foot. The history of Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn begins in 1621 when the original building was constructed as a small farmstead which was added to later. Monday Night Stay

On arrival was told that there would be no food available and should travel to the nearest main town for something to eat.

Not what a weary traveller wants to hear. Heavy traffic through village from dawn to dusk creates a noise problem. Rooms clean and functional but no Wi-Fi in them. Little to no service for mobile phones which could be a positive thing.

Unfortunate circumstances at the Cheshire Cheese

Apparently the family running the Cheshire Cheese had had a major fall out and had left the pub.

The present landlord, who had only taken up residence a few days before our arrival did a fine job of making us feel welcome and of rescuing the pub. Unfortunately he was unable to provide evening meals. Nevertheless he was personable and helpful. The breakfast was lovely and there was plenty of options, fresh fruit, cereal full English etc
