Stay Edinburgh City Apartments - Royal Mile
When I saw the entrance to the apartment office inside a tourist shop my heart sank, so I went through the shop down the stairs to the office.
From this point on everything was first class. Really helpful friendly staff, an amazing apartment on the high street. The lounge was absolutely massive. The location is superb you are on the royal mile in the middle of Edinburgh. With two small dogs there was no problem no extra charge. There is plenty of street entertainment. We enjoyed it, you may not. If you want a country cottage, this isn't it. If you want to be in the middle of the action this is will be 100% for you. Short walk to the Castle, Holyrood house and all the shopping you could possibly want. A couple of words of caution - This is Edinburgh old town. So the stairs up to the flat were quite steep, no lift. There is no way they could put a lift in as everything is grade I listed buildings. You can't drive up to the flats as its a pedestrian area, so be aware that you will need to walk a short distance. If you are coming by Train you are right behind Waverly station.
Barely 3 stars! Definitely not 4 stars (imho)
General comments: We travel frequently throughout the UK and this room was definitely not 4-stars standard in our experience.
I would have just barely given our room 3 stars. I imagine the quality of rooms is highly variable, so beware.
The good: Really friendly staff. When they got my wife's personal review after our stay, they responded that day and offered an unspecified discount if we stayed with them again in the future. I found the bed comfortable, although the sheets didn't really fit. It was worth the £55 per night we paid, but I wouldn't pay more. And, you could hardly beat the location. The bad: The bathroom was TINY and the shower dirty. A lot of broken things and furniture. Cleaning tools (mops, hoover) were stored in the open. And lots of stairs. Their policies are not only unfriendly but they feel downright hostile and unwelcoming.
Based on the friendliness of the staff I would give them a second chance -- if the price was right. But I could not recommend it in a city where there are many excellent alternatives.
The apartment was gracious and well maintained.
Our hosts Harvey, Patrick and Paul met our every need including a lift, laundry service (since our washer was broken) and storing our luggage. They could not be more welcoming and added greatly to our visit to Edinburgh.
Fab time in Edinburgh..... :)
Had a great stay here and would definitely recommend to friends and would use again.
Only thing I would mention would be the stairs..... there are a lot of them...!. My apartment was on the 3rd floor and after walking up the hill from the station and then from the office and then the stairs was bit knackered once I got inside, but got easier as the week went on!. Harvey from the Office was great, friendly and welcoming :)
Everything was really good & I have no bad things to say.
The highlight though were the two guys who show you two your apartments who were really helpful and looked like the The Proclaimers" doing a part time job. Well done everyone at StayEdinburgh
