Great rooms, disappointing breakfast

We stayed for two nights, the room and ensuite was huge, comfortable and nicely decorated.

The staff were great. The hotel is very well located in a quiet, pretty street around a five minute walk to the centre. Breakfast was a selection of cold offerings including, toast, boiled eggs, bread, fruit and pastries. Both my partner and I felt that breakfast was slightly disappointing compared to the standard and price of the hotel.

Not impressed and will not stay again or recommend

Despite travelling for business, the Rugby was on during my trip to Edinburgh.

I booked a single room as a double was exceptionally expensive at the time of booking. Upon reviewing the hotel website I saw that there were double rooms available, and costs had plummeted to below the cost of my single room. Upon calling the hotel to see if I could transfer to a double room for my own comfort, I was told I would have to still pay the cost of my single, and the cost of the double as a single room would be harder to sell. When I challenged this, I was informed that as I had booked via LateRooms they could not override the terms (despite LateRooms being very clear my contract is with the hotel, not them), and the gentleman did not have the authorisation to override this rule, so I asked to speak to the Manager, and was informed he would not be back until Monday (the call taking place on a Saturday). When I asked who was in charge I was informed that the gentleman I was speaking to was in charge, which I found ironic as he did not have authorisation to offer a decent service to an existing customer.

The room was tiny with the photos on the website being misleading, and of poor repair despite the cost, extremely warm and I did not feel comfortable opening a window being in a basement room and a single female traveller.

As a business traveller I will not use this hotel again, nor recommend the use of it again to my colleagues as we have a large contract underway in Edinburgh so their greediness as a result of the Rugby has removed a potential returning customer from their business.
