We booked for a 4 night stay at The Grange when we were staying in Coatbridge for a funeral.
Unfortunately despite hearing some good things about it, our stay was quite mediocre. The room we were in (no. 2) was tiny, smaller than any hotel room I've ever stayed in. Also right outside our window was some sort of large air conditioning unit or vent which made quite a lot of noise (turned off at night, but came on fairly early in the morning).
The rooms were clean and tidy but fairly dated. Bathroom was good but not maintained to a high level (sink tap was loose and would move around). We were given only 3 towels (2 medium, 1 small), which wasn't a huge issue, but on the first day when the cleaner cleaned our room she left us with only two, as apparently she had run out. When I asked for another one at reception, we were given some from another empty room (not sure why towels would be put into an empty room instead of given to guests). The bed was also fairly small and not very comfortable. The breakfast was similarly disappointing. The hotel used to do cooked breakfasts, as we had heard from friends that had stayed there that they were very good. However now they only do a basic breakfast: cereal, toast, tea, coffee and some yogurts. So not brilliant. The hotel also has no reception staff, so when you have any queries or requests it is only the cleaners or kitchen staff that are able to help. They do make the effort to be of assistance, but unfortunately without the manager around they aren't able to do a great deal. Although we had originally booked for 4 nights because we weren't sure when the funeral would be, it turned out that we only required 3 of the nights and asked whether it would be possible to get the 4th night refunded. The manager said he would re-list the room and if someone took it then we could get our money back. When we checked out the manager wasn't available to speak to, so we contacted him afterwards by email to find out whether we would be getting a refund. No one had taken the room, so he told us we wouldn't be getting a refund. His response was incredibly rude and he didn't even attempt to apologise for the fact that we weren't getting any money back. Seemingly customer service and repeat business is not a concern of his.
All in all our stay at The Grange was okay, but lacking a lot of normal considerations that you would receive at other hotels. Not somewhere that I would stay again if I had the choice.
Grange Hotel Coatbridge
Very tired, mouldy showers, plaster coming off the walls, broken windows, not reccomended for an £85.00p price tag..
