About the hotel
The 300 year old George Guest House provides comfortable accommodation for visitors to the historic town of Battle. Visit the place where English history changed forever. Walk over the battlefield where William the Conqueror stood.
We are easy to find in the heart of Battle, a 5 minute taxi ride from the train station and only a 2 minute walk from Battle Abbey, so come and visit soon. Stay in one of our brand new refurbished comfortable en-suite rooms. All rooms are booked on a room only rate and no breakfast is included in the booking rate. There are many cafes and great places to eat within a few minutes walk. Battle itself provides a great choice of restaurants and shops, while the seaside towns of Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea are less than 20 minutes drive away. Battle station also provides an excellent rail link to London, with direct access from Charing Cross and London Bridge stations. Please note that the hotel has no lift. Not as pictured
The room was nice, but it was nothing like the rooms pictured on the website, it was much more basic.
Paid extra for an 'attic' room, but all that meant was the window barely opened and there was roof in the way so you couldnt see out of it properly. Excellent location, nice and clean, just not as pictured.
Stayed here in February, booked and paid for 3 days and left after 2.
It was how one might imagine a hostel for the homeless. There were no facilities including dining facilities and usually no staff. The spiral staircase was dangerous for anyone over 50. To add insult to injury when I received my next credit card bill I had been charged twice for my stay. Once by The George and seemingly once by Eviivo which is, I understand, a central facilitator for accommodation providers. Having booked through LateRooms, I contacted them. They in turn contacted the hotel and Eviivo. They both denied duplicate charging and Eviivo said they had reserved the funds when booked but it’s cancelled when paid at hotel. LateRooms said they do not take money from clients and so it was not their problem. I phoned Eviivo who confirmed what I had been told and said I was probably mistaken in my belief of double charging. In fact I was correct and indeed one of the options when phoning Eviivo is where a client says he has paid twice and so I assume it is not an unusual occurrence. Eventually in speaking to the hotel they admitted that they should have cancelled the second payment but they had not. 3 days later the duplicate payment was credited to my credit card. It was a very wasteful and time consuming experience. My enthusiasm for LateRooms has taken a hit and I say avoid this hotel.
