14% would recommend it to a friend
As someone recently said this place needs some serious money spent refurbishing it to modern standards.
Not sure of the clinetelle but the car park was full of trades vans all of which gone by early am. Well our room was primitive. The net curtains were disintegrating and would not survive a washing I am sure. The rather small bathroom had rust around the plughole and the extractor fan was bunged with fluff. A vacuum of it would help as would under the bed. I booked this place by mistake and it will teach me to double check my bookings in future.
Great customer service but no cleaners or maintenance
A quite run down and filthy hotel with a number of safety concerns too.
Staff are very nice and couldn't do enough to please but the walls, ceilings, floors are filthy. Due to lack of cleanliness , I didn't risk trying breakfast. My safety concerns include missing and under pressure fire extinguishers and damaged wall sockets leaving live brass terminals exposed. This socket will have been noticed as cleaners or bed makers plugged a light into the socket. The hotel needs a maintenance inspection and clean urgently.
Receptionist was very friendly and accommodating.
Bed reasonably comfortable, lots of pillows. There is no restaurant on site, even though the web page says there is. Being in crutches with no transport meant having to order takeaways. The website says the bathrooms are newly refurbished - maybe they were at the turn of the century!. Wifi, while free, is worse than 3G, possibly on a par with 2G!
Disappointed but aware that you get what you pay for...
I had a very friendly greeting and check-in and out were smooth.
The hotel is on a busy dual carriage way next to a petrol station and there's nowhere within walking to distance to eat/drink at, so I ended up stocking up at the petrol station, which isn't ideal. The road was noisy (even with their double glazed windows) so I would advise you book a room at the rear. Please be a are that an MK postcode doesn't mean you'll be in the heart of Milton Keynes - this hotel is not at all central and traffic can work against you if you need to be central in the morning. For a one- off stay it's fine - this was the cheapest, reasonable place (that wasn't a hostel or random B & B) that I could find at short notice.
Milton Keynes Hotel
This hotel is in need of a scrub, clean and a re-decoration.
Open University PhD Student 2 Day Conference
The hotel is about 14 miles from the Open University campus, and therefore quite convenient for an 09.30 start.
I did not read the reviews before booking, and only later did I see so many adverse comments, which gave me misgivings about my booking - I need not have worried!. The reception staff were extremely polite and helpful, the room was unexpectedly spacious, and the bed, for me, was extremely comfortable.
OK - the décor is a bit dated, but being comfortably warm, that hardly mattered. There were a couple of lamp bulbs not working, but if I had asked for replacement, I have no doubt that would have been done - the fact is that I did not need them to be replaced. The room had a good heater, effective double glazing, and plenty of space to sit and work. My room was the furthest [on my corridor] from the reception area, and I could not get an internet signal on my ipad [a more powerful laptop may not have had that problem], but it was no effort to take my ipad to the reception area and sit there to use it when I wanted. I have no complaints, although a larger bath-towel would have been appreciated.
Not as bad as i was expecting
I read the reviews of this hotel after it was too late to cancel.
I rang them up ands asked if it was as bad as the reviews stated. I was very apprehensive as to what i would find. Externally its not impressive, there is some form of scrap yard next door, and cars in the hotel car park with 4 flat tyres. Inside the receptionist was vey polite and helpful. The place does look shabby and in need of a refit. The room was ok, new flat screen tv and the bed linen appeared clean. Bathroom was bit shabby and the toilet flush was a bit hit and miss. There was no food at the hotel, but the takeaways deliver to your room, (all of them charge extra for this) I wouldn't stay there again. I thought breakfast was in with £57.50 charge but was told this was £7.50 extra. No thanks.
