The staff were faultless.
Very polite and helpful. The chef produces some amazing food and the menu is lovely. The rooms to the front are noises due to old sash Windows so of you want a quiet one ask for a room off the front. The room was a standard double and was large bit a little outdated for the price. The furniture and the shape of the room just didn't seem to work. The room had a huge bathroom with brilliant shower but fittings were a little dated and tired. But a brilliant stay none the less.
English, quaint change from hotels which belong to a chain of hotels, different in a good way, personal
Lovely in it's own way, personal very friendly.
Such a change to have staff who like to smile and pass the time of day, relaxing, beds very good, towels lovely and soft. Sauna is great, all working, warm and peaceful.
Disappointed this time.
Used this hotel many times when visiting family.
Charming staff throughout.
We had a Standard room which was nice and comfortable but let down with a very 'tired' bathroom. As there wasn't a lift we had some difficulty reaching our room; we had not been made aware that we would have to negotiate several flights of stairs. This time the breakfast, which has always been something to look forward to, was a very disappointing. The portions were meagre and uninspiring. Service was very slow and, as lovely and friendly the waitresses were, they seemed stretched to the point of incompetence.
Yes we will probably use the rather expensive Winnstay again as it suits our purpose, but we sincerely hope that our observations will result in remedial action on the part of the management.
Great food and gym BUT the outdated room and dirty pool let the trip down
We were very pleased by the friendly and attentive staff who managed to make us feel important and juggle the wedding party at the same time (10/10).
The food in the bar was excellent and breakfast, again, exceeded expectations. We used the gym and found it to be one of the best we have ever used. However, the room and pool are two areas that let the whole experience down.
Compared to the photos online, the pool was both dirty (stained tiles) and very cold and the blue plastic cover with its rusty frame didn’t add to the experience and coupled with the general state of repair (e.g. mouldy windows around Jacuzzi) let the whole place down. The room is another area that doesn’t meet the website description. The bathroom was very outdated and again very warn with a stained carpet and water damage from the bath. The ripped net curtain drew your attention to the emergency exit/window behind, that although had a variety of potential latches, all failed to secure the room. This wasn’t helped by a few locals running up and down the stairs during the night.
The numerous email did inform us about events in the function room (which we had no issues with at all), but didn’t mention the kitchen extra system that ran till c. midnight and started up again at c. 6am the following morning. As you can imagine we didn’t have the best night’s sleep. I hope that the room we stayed in is programmed for modernisation (including appropriate windows with sound proofing) and the pool area gets some attention, as its spoiled what would have been an excellent experience.
Accommodation is very tired and the rooms could do with being updates especially the bathrooms
More airs and graces than quality
The rooms were small, the bed was small, everything was a bit dated.
Bathrooms slightly mouldy, and shower pretty rubbish- nothing terrible, but expected more from the price and 4 stars. The spa was much the same- not much to write home about.
Large price for a small room
Although the accommodation is clean and attractively decorated the room we stayed in was rather small considering the price.
I cannot comment on food as we had breakfast else where, again because of the additional cost. And unfortunately we did not take advantage of the gym and sauna facilities.
Very Welcoming and Centrally Located
Very courteous welcome by the helpful receptionist, well situated in the centre of Oswestry within walking distance of pubs / shops / restaurants.
Didn't try any of the food on this occasion, but will certainly try breakfast next time as it looked lovely when I popped my head into the restaurant. Enjoyed the well maintained leisure facilities, good size gym, excellent swimming, sauna, and steam room / hot tub. Already booked my next visit, and delighted with 10% discount offered as a return customer.
