Not quite a grand hotel
There are some features of the hotel which would comfortably merit its four star status, in the public areas the reception & the sofa area definitely do.
Our bedroom was in the main also up to spec, nice decor & furnishings including the sliding mirror doors on the wardrobe & a sensible size tv that was easily viewed from the very comfortable bed. The Welsh blanket arranged across the bed was also a lovely touch & it might be worth the hotel thinking about selling these (yes I do know how expensive they are!) as overseas visitors with good exchange rates might be tempted. Higher ratings are generally down to the finer detail & this is where there is room for improvement. These major tweaks were discussed with the check out receptionist & I don't intend to be pettyfogging & list them here.
The hotel entrances and car spaces are on two levels. One unavoidable irritant was the extremely disrupted upper parking adjacent to the hotel entrance - there are Blue Badge spaces but they were impossible to access as a number of Wedding Fair exhibitors were either occupying the few 'normal' spaces & either the size of the vehicles or the way they were parked made access to the Blue Badge spaces impossible. Grrr. Efforts have been made with the set Winter menu & the quality of the produce is excellent, there is something missing in the results when the food reaches the table (but hard to define). The restaurant is a big space with a high ceiling which made it very noisy on the evening we dined there, despite the majority of tables being vacant. The view from our room was stunning in the morning & if we had stayed longer we would definitely have tried the roof top bar. I wish you provided an unsure option the grids below because, if I heard they had ironed out the wrinkles we might be prepared to give it another try.
Have to say that the real jewel in the crown, with the exception of one more mature staff member at breakfast is definitely the staff - all accomodating, helpful and keen to make your stay as good as it can be.
Quality Hotel - Quality Service

Stradey Park Hotel
Map of the area would have been helpful .Toiletries were very basic & it would have been nice to have a face flannel. Those are the negatives, but the positives far outweigh. The staff were all fantastic especially the receptionists & our waitress Debbie.
Best hotel ever for friendly, helpful staff.Food in restaurant was Ok.
Good independent hotel
Stayed here on business, helpful staff nicely decorated with attempts at boutique, but lacking in a few details.
Good comfortable rooms, and pleasant enough bar and restaurant, though the buffet breakfast didn't quite live up to the level of the rest of hotel.
Overall I'd stay here again for business, but probably wouldn't rush here for pleasure.
