Best Western Limpley Stoke Hotel, Bath

Room was not as advertised.

Dated and in need of some tlc. Wallpaper coming off the wall. Room smelt unpleasant and needed to be aired. However the room was clean. When we arrived there was a near empty loo roll which needed to be changed.

BW Limpley Stoke

We had chosen this hotel as we were attending Bath v Wasps rugby match.

As our room were not ready when we checked in we left our luggage in the car and went off into Bath for the game. We arrived back at the hotel at around 8pm and decided to have a drink in the bar. At this point we had all of our luggage with us. Our wives then had a small piece of chocolate which we had brought and were immediately told by the bar man they were not allowed to eat the chocolate in the bar. We finished our drinks and went up to our rooms 31 & 33 next to each on the second floor. On entry the rooms were tired but appeared clean. The twin beds however were awful, lumpy, creaking and generally unstable. When the rooms were booked they were the only ones available so we thought there would be no availability of other rooms. As we had had a long day we were tired and decided to turn in for the evening. It was a very restless night and we all got very little sleep. We are not in the habit of complaining but thought we needed to mention the beds to the reception. On check out we told the receptionist who fetched the duty manager Diana. We explained we'd had an awful nights sleep and was there some kind of compensation bearing in mind our rooms ŵere just short of £100 per night without breakfast. She said there had been no other complaints about the beds so there was nothing she could do, we said we're complaining about the beds and she said as she'd had no complaints prior to ours she would have to do a full investigation. We asked if there could be a gesture of good will maybe a refund of the bar bill £16 or complimentary breakfast £10 per person. She said no as they were different departments. She went into the back office then came back and said she would refund our breakfasts but not our friends who had an equally poor night. Eventually as time was getting on and there were people waiting to check out we agreed. All in all not a great way to finish a lovely trip to a great city. Would we stay here again, no. Will we recommend this hotel, no. Shame as it is an impressive building in a lovely location.

Tired hotel

We were fooled by the website.

An old hotel that smells of cabbage and lacks any style at all.

Birthday treat

I booked this one night stay as part of a birthday treat for my wife.

I had booked a twilight spa for her and wanted somewhere not too far away from the spa to stay to complete the break. The hotel, service and staff were fantastic and with the hotel being situated about 4 miles from the spa, in the countryside was perfect. Price wise it was perfect as on other occasions we just used travelodges etc. However this time it worked on barely £10 more for a far more superior all round stay. Would definitely go again.

Hotel was comfortable and in keeping with its surroundings.

There was some confusion between the counter staff and bar staff regarding where I could order and pay for a sandwich. This resulted in a delay, and my meal being delivered to an empty table and left until I queried it. On the whole a positive experience and I would definitely stay again.
