We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the service, the room and the food were all excellent and we will definitely stay again.
The only slight criticisms were that we mistakenly received an alarm call at 5:20am and that the lighting in the room is very dark and I struggled to do my make-up. Loved the fact that unusually we couldn't hear anyone else in the hotel, the room was really quiet and the blackout curtains meant we could have slept in late. Just wish we could have taken up the opportunity to stay for Sunday lunch and a late check out for only £20 each.
Hits & Mrs
There are so many lovely things about this place, balanced out by so many things that may seem odd or downright weird.
The luxury of their bath towels - you have to feel one to know what I mean (but why do they hang out only one when there are two people sharing a room?) Soft mood lighting (but how is anyone supposed to see how to shave or do their make-up in the morning?) The great night's sleep you get courtesy of a comfortable bed and a really quiet environment (but if it's a warm night doesn't a thin sheet stretched out over a Sealy mattress topper make you feel like you're lying on a rubber incontinence-sheet. oh and on a Saturday night you have to put your earplugs in until the disco stops at midnight) Famously filling breakfast (but why is it set up like an obstacle course to sort out the hipsters from those of us looking for the milk-jug, who just don't get, first thing in the morning, that it's the thing in the middle of the table we've mistaken for an empty flower vase. note to designer from non-urbanite: not all dairy cows are friesians) Most of the staff are absolutely wonderful, v friendly, and incredibly hard-working. And most of the time, if service is slow, in the sense that it seems to be taking an awfully long time for your food to arrive, it's because there's someone in the kitchen cooking it properly - which takes time.
Architecture is a cross between old-fashioned luxury/discreet hotel look and the aggressively modern. Just to take the bathroom as an example: there were some neat features in the layout, making it much easier for two people to be in there at the same time, but more attention to detail would be good. eg tap fittings are so close to the edge of the sink, that it's almost inevitable that water splashes all over the block of soap on its slate slab and on to the floor. Another grab-rail, on the wall at the end of the bath, would be good - people who are not so mobile (this is not a self-reference) will inevitably steady themselves on the towel rail (sure enough the towel-rail in our room was coming loose at the top end beside the bath). Room has a bath, but toiletries provided don't include bath-oil/foam: just purple designer shower gel and purple designer shampoo/conditioner.
Clean and comfy rooms in a fab.
When it came to checking out the reception advised that we needed to pay for the accommodation, I explained that we had paid direct through Late Rooms but the staff member said they had no recollection of that.
I had to provide proof which they later accepted but I found the reception staff at that time to be quite rude & I was disappointed that we had to provide proof of purchase.
Everything else related to the stay was excellent.
The receptionist was very helpful and allowed us to book in early.
Room nice size, well presented clean and tidy. Bed extremely comfortable, room quiet.
Nothing too much trouble for staff, welcoming, genuinely friendly.Obvious they enjoy working there.
Business in the north
As expected not bad, room small but clean.
Street noise in early hours. They didn't bring the newspaper as ordered. Otherwise fine
Very comfortable room and close to shops
