Excellent venue, terrible service
I must start by saying that the rooms, food, pub and location are delightful.
The vast majority of people will have a great experience. However our experience was a classic case of how well (or not) a hotel manages clients when things go wrong. We arrived having spent most of the day outside on a bitter Winters day. We were delighted to be offered the best room in the hotel, and indeed it was lovely. However there was no heating in and the room was freezing cold (to save money apparently). We asked if there was another room but were told it would soon warm up. We decided to wait downstairs in the bar (no offer of a drink to while our time). While downstairs we were introduced to the landlord and landlady and we asked them to check the room in case. They agreed it was not acceptable and told us they would arrange for a second heater to be put in. After an hour downstairs we went back to our room to find it had improved from freezing to very cold. We were so tired that we just got into bed fully clothed and cuddled up to watch TV for the hour before dinner. At no time did anyone come and check if things had improved. We had a lovely dinner and started to thaw nicely. On returning to the room it was still too cold and at this point I just lost my cool a little too. I went back to the bar and found another person who was the first one to actually really put some effort in. I asked (for the third time) if there was no chance of moving or doing something to significantly improve the heating. She immediately showed us another room. On the way we stopped and checked the boiler which was very low on pressure and needed to be topped up. The new room had no heating but it was significantly warmer than our room and because it was smaller it would heat up. So we moved rooms and within an hour the room was lovely and warm. Eventually we had a great nights sleep. This was a classic example of no one taking responsibility to rectify a tiny problem that had a big impact on the quality of our experience, or to listen when we requested another room, or to try to make amends during the process.
The George Inn
Staff were great.
There was a girl, I think her name was Georgette, sorry if I've got the name wrong. But she was very helpful. Only thing was the television was so small in a very big room. However, It's a lovely place to stay. Had a plenty of orbs in my room, very entertaining.
Great first impression of old building as arrive in village plenty of parking space and friendly welcome.
Nice big room with loads of old character and charm. Great food in evening and really good breakfast with local ingredients. All in all great place to stay
We arrived Friday evening to a great little bar, live music and much needed bottle of wine.
The hotel looks gorgeous from the outside as does the rest of Wedmore - picture perfect.
In the room we found that the hotel is reported to be home to several ghosts so be warned. Nothing but a welcoming atmosphere greeted us though, despite the creepy dentist chair in the corner of our room.
Breakfast we delicious even if it did take a little while to come on the first morning.
Overall very pleasant stay and a much nicer town than Cheddar, very happy with our choice.
Fabulous 1 night break
Came to Wedmore for the dress shops and decided to stay overnight.
Fab find great hospitality and fantastic food. Great value for money and will return again.
Fantastic two night stay at The George Inn.
Enjoyed a fabulous 2 night stay at The George Inn over bank holiday weekend.to celebrate wedding anniversary.
The atmosphere, and vibe of the place was just great. Food was very good. Excellent quality and reasonably priced. Breakfast (range of options and portion size) was a wonderful experience. The room we stayed in (Room 2) was decorated in a slightly quirky (almost gothic) style (dark maroon walls with gold wash on a feature wall) - great ambience. The bed was extremely comfortable, and bathroom very 'chique'. Ellie, the manageress was very friendly and efficient, and all staff were very friendly. Would love to come back and stay in Winter time, when the log fires (there were a number of small dining room areas, each with an open fire) would serve to add even more atmosphere to this delightful hotel.
Relaxed and friendly pub accommodation
A great staff team created a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere in a beautiful old pub.
