Room had just been painted
When we arrived our allocated room was on the first floor.
On going up we noticed a smell of paint
, it was quite srrong in the room so I decided to open the windows only to find that the paint was still wet. We went down and told the receptionist she straight away changed our room for one on the second floor which was fine.
Breakfast was good and staff were friendly.
Very comfortable, value for money, my grandson was very impressed.
Rooms could do with painting
Pleasant stay but needs improved wifi
I stayed three nights, eating one evening meal from the a la carte menu that was tasty and well cooked.
The hotel is looking a bit tired in the accommodation areas but is clean. My room was spacious with a big window, which made for a pleasant enough stay that was let down by the poor wifi (unfortunately, my phone signal wasn't strong enough there for 4G). However, I understand from staff that this being addressed soon. If connectivity is important to you, I suggest you check on the wifi status before booking but otherwise this is a good value hotel (June 2016).
A lovely warm welcoming, staff were very pleasant.
The food was faultless, with a a varied chose. Serving times in the rooms would have been helpful as we weren't informed at check in & there was no one available on the front desk later to ask. Breakfast staff were delightful.overall lovely weekend.
Nice location, beautiful surroundings but lack of information regarding maintenance work
Booked this hotel as we wanted a quiet country location not far from the property that we are developing, currently without kitchen or bathroom, when we arrived (and when we booked) maintenance was being carried out and we had no water for bath/shower.
We were not told of this, the water was put on but we had problems with it before it was working properly. Lift out of order (my partner has disability problems), we also were looking at a potential wedding venue here for us. We decided not to eat or drink at the hotel as were not sure what facilities would be available if maintenance was being carried out, so went to nearest town at a cost of £40 return taxi fare.
Friendly staff in this average hotel
Some of the communal areas look very smart whilst others particularly the stairwells look quite tired.
Bedroom was of a good size and towards the rear of the property, well furnished with a comfortable bed. Every functioned wllll apart from the window which was rotten and needed replacing. We only eat breakfast at the hotel which was average and so can't comment on other catering facilitieis
Little to no customer service, views were of a car park- not as described, whole venue requires maintenance (rips in sofas, very dated bath, lock on room door was not secure, lissues with lift) and the downstairs decor of communal areas did not match that of the rooms upstairs.
Overall somewhat disappointed.
My First Stay at HCH...
For the money a great hotel, it wasn't far from my office, had a good car park, nice room and reasonable food.....even though I turned up at nearly 9pm when they were trying to close the restaurant for meal orders....however waitress was very helpful and the steak and chips was very good....especially for around £18.00 including drinks!
Nice hotel, pleasant staff but the service in the restaurant, particularly at breakfast is quite poor.
Breakfast is 8-10 am but get there at 8 and there is no staff around. One morning we had to wait until 8:30 am, having arrived at 8:10 to be served a hot drink and get hot food. The few staff available were busy dealing with a coach party in an adjacent room and other guests were being told by the staff that they had to wait until the coach party had all been served first. The lovely reception manager needs to pass on his customer service skills to a few of the restaurant staff.
