The Howbeck staff were cheerful and welcoming, always helpful.
Bedroom and bathroom were excellent. Wide bed, good mattress, powerful shower in the bathroom, these things are important. Hearty breakfasts, all in all a good experience. However, we thought it expensive even for a top quality b&b, would have been better value if half board (with dinner) at the same price. Despite our pleasurable stay, we would look around next time.
Nice, friendly place!
Staff were very friendly, and everywhere was clean.
We booked this as our honeymoon break, and we loved the privacy of The Retreat.
We had just come from our wedding venue where had stayed the night before and the first impressions of our room, felt like there was something 'missing'. The mattress was too soft for my liking, but all in all we had a wonderful stay.
Loved the TV in the bathroom and the jacuzzi bath.
Price was a lot, but I guess its the area!
we went away for our first wedding anniversary the room was exactly as the pictures showed we recieved a warm welcome and a cup of tea.
we was then shown around the room given a form to order our breakfast then left to enjoy our stay. the breakfast we ordered arrived at the time we had asked for it and it was beautiful.
Excellent location and a delicious breakfast
A bit disappointed that there was no need for the free upgrade we were promised, but at least it meant we didn't need to change rooms.
The room we had was very clean and lovely and quiet and the bed was really comfortable. I was delighted to see the multi-jet shower, but very disappointed to find that the central jet appeared to have been snapped off, so a large chunk of me didn't get squirted. The full English breakfast was by far the best I had ever had and set us up properly for the day. The Hotel is in a really good location and had the best display of flowers in the whole town. A wonderful scent hit you as you walked in through the door. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.
Luck of gym
This hotel was booked on the facilities that were listed, in particular that it had Gymnasium, Indoor Pool, Fitness Centre, Sauna, Steam Rooms, Massage, Beauty Salon/Manicure, Solarium, Jacuzzi .
What I did not realise is that all this was a 25 minute walk to another hotel. This hotel did not actually have any of this on-site, they actually state, if you click the "Read More" button on the late rooms web-site: "free spa and leisure are also available near by. " My problem is that nearby is vague and in this case there nearby is not the same as mine. Otherewise nothing else to complain about. The shower in my room was excellent.
A Birthday Treat
Enjoyed a short stay for my birthday.
Great service. Lovely room, very clean, nice bedding, jacuzzi, complimentary spirits ;-) Breakfast also lovely. Absolutely no complaints, hope to return one day.
Excellent customer service and hospitable atmosphere.
This stay has made us enjoy our trip very comfortably.
The Perfect 'Retreat'
We booked in advance through LateRooms and weren't disappointed.
We stayed in The Retreat suite with a private entrance and courtyard, and relaxing jet bath. The room was spacious and a lovely touch to have breakfast served to our room each morning. There was a large breakfast selection to choose from, and all our additional choice requests were catered for. We had dinner on our first night, and although we found it unusual to order in advance, it meant we weren't kept waiting too long between courses. On arrival we were a bit early, and our initial greeting was a but abrupt. However subsequent staff couldn't do enough to help us, and the girl who brought us breakfast each morning was always cheery. Our suite was cleaned and dressed each morning. Also a lovely touch to have complementary bottles of water and a decanter of sherry replaced each day. The location is ideal for visiting the Lake Windermere area: Windermere is a short five minute walk away (ten minutes to the bus/train station) and Bowness is a fifteen minute walk away (allow slightly longer for the uphill return journey!). We loved our honeymoon stay and plan to return for our first anniversary next year.
