1 Night at Elmwood Hotel
Very nice Hotel but some minor defects like bed side lamp bulb not working, some of AC power sockets not working, Kettle not working which were highlighted to reception staff in the morning....very clean and warm and would stay again despite minor details..
bad value for money
The hotel looks pleasant on laterooms.com - with comfortably sized rooms.
But reality is different. No lift. a small room, very, very noisy. The bathroom ok, apart from the toilet brush which was dirty and disgusting. The TV worked, the remote control did not. The heating was off, on November 7th. The radiator was turned on, maybe to make the guest believe that it was going to come on soon. There was a small heater in the wardrobe. This worked. It was noisy though and of course I switched it off when I went to bed for security reasons. In the morning I was going to make some tea. Sadly the kettle did not fit into the sink so I had to get water from the shower. This only to discover that the kettle was not working at all. The internet was working OK and at good speed. I did not want breakfast. I checked out at 10.30 or so whilst the builders were working next door. Did I mention they started around 8 am . On checking out I told the receptionist about the kettle, the TV... he became slightly aggressive. Why had I not told him last night. The TV works, he could have shown me how to use it. And he could have moved me into another room. Yeah great, that's exactly what a lady is looking for after a long day with an hour sleep the night before - some guy in her room showing her how to operate the TV. Besides the fact there is no phone in the room so whenever you want to talk to reception you have to go downstairs. Of course I had to pay before I got the room key. And there was an extra charge of 3,5% due to the fact I was paying with a German Card. All in all I paid some 75 quid. The rating of this hotel should not be what it is. 2 stars max.
Perfect for business
I go to London fairly often for business but have to pay out of my own pocket.
This hotel is great for me. It's cheap, clean and the beds are pretty good.
Did what it said on the tin
Generally fine for a budget hotel.
Friendly staff. Rooms fine except that my son had a mouldy kettle in his room.
Overpriced barely hostel quality.
Overpriced and barely hostel quality accommodation.
Thin partition walls allowing the benefit of hearing every movement across the laminate flooring of adjacent rooms. Double bed wedged against the wall allowing me to bang my head against it when I turned over in the night. Uncomfortable bed with rough blankets and a bedspread - like something out of the 1970's. No uPVC windows so the room was drafty. On arrival I was given a key (yale type - hardly secure) to a room where the door was already ajar and the lock was broken so wouldn't stay shut let alone was lockable. The person on the desk informed me that '..you need to put the latch down...'. When I pointed out that the latch was in fact missing I was then given a key to the 'no room to swing a cat in' room. How was the first room even available for letting. Did the cleaner not notify of broken door locks thereby initiating a maintenance call. Unbelievable. Will never stay here again.
Cheap and easy to find
This hotel is 5 mins walk from Kings Cross, the breakfast was sufficient and the room acceptable.
The reception is manned 24/7 but once I and two other guests waited about ten mins for a receptionist to appear and as you have to hand in keys when leaving the building to go out that was annoying. But for 50 quid a night for a single en suite room I would stay again.
Dirty floor and walls, ripped bedsheets.
I wasn't expecting a 5* hotel for the price but atleast a clean room.
There were dirt marks smudged all across the walls, the floors were thick with dirt, the bathroom smelt damp and the bedsheets were dirty and ripped. The only good thing was location but that's it.
Last minute booking
Literally booked last minute because of change of concert date and location.
Hotel ideally placed for King's Cross (for station) and Kentish Town (for new concert venue). All staff were very friendly and helpful. On arrival room booking was changed to provide us with a bigger and better room (at no extra cost) which better suited our needs. Will definitely being staying here again. Highly recommended!
Worst hotel I have ever stayed in, dirty, faulty, noisy, uncomfortable, smelly, it was literally hell
I wouldn't send my dog there.
Was literally horrific . Worst night sleep ever
Suprised the hotel gets any guests. Should be shut down . Not worth £5 a night to stay let alone £70!
Could so easily have been Good value for money
Firstly the receptionist was pleasant had a good sense of humour even told us to buy our own gluten free bread which they would toast.
However small things like the bathroom smelling of wee, broken fixings mound in shower a single sheet on double bed outdated blankets on beds one bedside lamp for three beds and worn out flooring no obvious fire exits and pretty poor breakfast made us feel that at £145 we could have found much better value for money elsewhere.
Would definitely not return.
