I found The Derwentwater Hotel to be a great disappointment as a Hotel in a lovely area like Keswick in The Lake District.
The whole Hotel resembled a very run down old peoples home with stained settees and chairs in the conservatory and very tired looking rooms. The staff where very conscientious and courtious but I did not expect to find a damp patch as big as a table top on the wall facing the bed and to be sleeping under an alcove with peeling wallpaper hanging off. I should have known better when the Hotel advertised "dogs welcome" . I was offered accomodation at The Derwentwater Hotel after enquiring about Keswick hotels with disabled facilities as I was taking my 98 year old mother who is wheelchair bound for an overnight stay to meet up with a relative who was staying in the area. There was a ramp in to and out of the conservatory and a lift but that is where the disabled facilities ended as I had to move two beds , two bedside lockers , two chairs and a sideboard in order to get the wheelchair lined up to the en-suite door which was too narrow to get the chair through and had a step. At this point my mum was in tears.
The hotel was 'tired' to put it politely.
The décor was scuffed in many places throughout the hotel, many of the chairs in the conservatory were stained, a good number of the double-glazed units had failed and the bathroom tiles had mould stained grout, a badly fitted shower screen and a leaking shower. At breakfast the sausages, bacon and hash browns were undercooked. We overheard people sending their undercooked food back on more than one occasion. The wifi connection was intermittent and on our last day, non-existent. The staff we dealt with were all extremely friendly, helpful and polite.
dated and down at heel.
Hotel in desperate need of an upgrade.
Basin cracked, mouldy shower screen. The position of the toilet you had to sit side on. Wallpaper falling off in bedroom and dining room. The breakfast was undercooked. I don't mind staying in budget hotels but expect budget prices . I have e mailed shearings asking for a refund but not expecting a reply .
Do not book room 103
The room is dated...the bathroom terrible....sink taps dripping, sink cracked, lots of mould, shower head leaking, not used to staying in such accommodation.
Would not recommend this hotel.
Great friendly hotel right on the outskirts of Keswick . well recommend

I will definitely be going back .

Clean , tidy and very friendly place to stay .
The Derwentwater Hotel
Lovely hotel the staff were excellent , its pet friendly which you don't find out until you get there.
Not a fan of pets in rooms. Restaurant very good staff excellent
Staff were very nice.
Hotel in lovely location, very quiet. If they want to keep the lake views will need to do some tree/shrub pruning, same view not like the photo. Room (205) was ok, but bathroom was tiny, dirty, mould, generally grubby, fittings poor, needed painting and a good scrub. If you wanted a warm shower it just trickled out. Breakfast was excellent. Had an older clientele it seemed. Bar prices a bit steep. Needs a pool. Some entertainment would be good, they have a huge bar/conservatory but don't make proper use of it, they could do so much more. Shame really, could be so nice if they just did some maintenance. Apart from grubby bathroom did enjoy it, but doubt we would go back.
Nice place for a getaway
Stayed for a short break, very convenient location (providing you're in a car) to base yourself for exploring the northern lakes.
Good value for money. One minor critisim was the soundproofing in the room wasn't great, but thankfully the neighbouring rooms did not have particularly noisy occupants.
