Bijou Loft

We stayed in Bijou Loft other rooms are available and appear to offer differing accommodation.

Had planned to stay in Durham for some time. Hotel convenient for town centre and pubs. Staff very hospitable without being overbearing. Accommodation very good, but Bijou does mean Bijou and at 6 foot I found myself walking hunched over, though this was not particularly necessary the ceiling was lower than usual. There were several flights of stairs to reach the room and lit by motion sensor lighting, which though obviously energy efficient did detract from the experience . Food was fantastic and service very prompt. Would gladly stay again and certainly recommend.

A visit to Durham

Beautiful room - but not very practical.

Free standing bath in bedroom had led to previous occupant leaving a wet carpet for us. We did not use the bath, and this space might have been used better. Lighting - ceiling LED spotlights ok, but reading lights need to be LED bulbs as well. Breakfast was superb - try the eggs benedict. Overall very happy experience.

Lovely stay

I was in durham for a night on business.

Stayed in the express room that had decor of a train cart. Very quaint. The important bits were solid, which was a nice bathroom, good wifi, and good bed.

Ate at the restaurant downstairs, fantastic service it food was ok.

So all in all a please eme xperience. Hoping the next visit i'll get the chance to explore the area.

Luxury room

We stayed in the ruby room for an overnight treat .

As it was a Sunday night we were unable to eat in the restaurant but we were looking forward to a nightcap in the beautiful bar on our return from having dinner at a nearby eaterie. Unfortunately when we returned at about 10 . 30 there was no one to serve us , the bar was locked up and there was no one at reception to open up . Sadly this was a disappointing end to our evening . However , the four poster bed was very comfortable and the atmosphere romantic ... I would stay again and I hope on that occasion the bar would be ready to serve our night cap .

Brilliant

We had a garden room (Le Jardin) in a single storey extension to the rear of the main building with a hot tub on a terrace overlooking Durham sports fields to the rear.

This room was well furnished with deep pile carpet rich upholstery and decorations and the bathroom had a roll top bath and walk-in shower. this is a very private attractive room. We had thought of trying a local restaurant and were pleased we didn't as the hotel restaurant served fantastic food. Service was cheerful and excellent. I have stayed in a number of boutique hotels in the north of England (especially targeting those with hot tubs) and this was one of the best.
