Family time

Stayed at The Cain due to a family occasion, centre of town so close to all amenities, accommodation excellent, clean and friendly service, our family party was on the Sunday and they allowed a late check out so we weren't hanging around in our finery, which was great

Cutting corners

Accommodation is adequate for two night stay rooms.

Need modernising a little mouldy. Let down by the food service what should have been an enjoyable experience due to the carelessness of the chef manager who served stone cold food and openly told me he cut corners so he could have a cigarette. I hope he realises that by doing so he is not only endangering the health of his clients. But also breaking the law by not monitoring correct food safety legislation.

Our Stay at the Cain Valley Hotel

We had a very enjoyable two night stay at the Cain Valley.

We took advantage of the Bed, Breakfast and Dinner option, the dinner option includes a three course meal, anything off the locally sourced menu, I enjoyed a rib-eyed steak the first night and double lamb chops the second night. A nice cooked Breakfast, which set you up for a day out. During our stay, we visited a couple of the local attractions, Llanrhaedr Waterfall and Lake Vyrnwy both were a short car ride away. Drove around the lake road, but to enjoy it at it best it would be better on a bike.

We were only a couple, but we were given a large family room which was clean and tidy. The bathroom had recently been upgraded. As the building was built pre-spirit level, our bedroom floor sometimes gave you that wobble experience without any of the cost of consuming large amounts of alcohol, which was all part of the building history. Staff were very friendly and helpful. My only gripe, was a lack of real ales available, the 1st night there was only one local brew, but another one did join the selection on the 2nd night. But the other pub in the town is just a short walk up the road which had three ales. I noticed some of the locals in the Cain drinking bottles of Newcastel Brown, now I enjoy a good pint of Newcastle, but only when there is no other option available, which is most probably why the locals are drinking it.

Great location, pleasant atmosphere , very good food.

We had a spacious and quite comfortable room, and enjoyed pleasant service and excellent breakfasts in the restaurant.

The bar food was also very good and reasonably priced.

On the downside, The decor and furniture in the room needed some upgrading. We reported a bedside lamp not working and it was not replaced during our stay. The hot water did not come through till 7.30; a bit late for breakfast at 8. The public bar became very rowdy one evening.

The new manager, who was pleasant and helpful, had only been there for 2 days so I'm sure things these things will improve in due course.

Its a lovely quaint old building in a very friendly village .

Last minute stay

Booked last min as an overnight stop on way home from visiting friends.

Stayed before and was pleased. Room this time was not as good - clean ( bathroom been updated but sadly not the rest of the room) I suppose we were lucky to get a room really at very short notice on a Saturday . Breakfast was cooked to order and one of the nicest we have had in a long time so made a special point of thanking member of staff on leaving.

Good atmosphere

Carries the charm of the late industrial period into the 21st Century very well.

Nice, friendly staff. Good food.
