Half Moon by Marstons Inns
Friendly and welcoming.
On arrival we had to wait a long time for somenone at the Half Moon to check us in, my husband had to go and find a lady who was working behind the bar.
She was friendly and helpful and made sure we had given her our car registration details so that we weren't charged later on as their car park was a pay and display. Our room was average, the shower head above the bath had a continuous drip, the food at dinner was lukewarm, the vegetables looked as though they had been on the plate for a long time and the sirloin steak was tough. When we looked for a waitress to discuss this there was no one around. Breakfast the following morning was better and the waiter helpful and friendly.
worth the mone
good quality rooms and service , would use again , nothing to complain about unless you are a grizzler by nature , good value and very niceand helpful people .
A lovely stay
I stayed for one night and I thought it was excellent.
Free Wi-Fi, a hot shower, clean room, coffee and tea tray (with some complimentary bourbon biscuits), a nice TV and a cooked breakfast in the morning - very happy. Also, if you don't want to venture outside, then the pub downstairs does food at very good prices. If in the area again, I will definitely look to stay here again.
If I had to say one (minor negative) then it's that the pillow was really quite hard and at times uncomfortable. But this really is nit-picking.
Not a restful night and a nasty surprise
Having booked to stay one night here to break up a six hour drive to the South coast I was hoping for a relatively cheap room and a good nights sleep.
The man checking me in seemed to be more concerned about chatting with someone in the bar than getting my details correct and then couldn't find my booking before realising he'd got my name completly wrong because he hadn't listened. The room itself was reasonable for the money paid however was very warm, without air conditioning I was left to open windows, sadly these did not open far and being at the front of the pub was overlooking the street which was full of people drinking. I was however told the bar shuts at 10:30pm on a Sunday so was confident this wouldn't be a problem, however at 1am I still had people under the windows making noise and the room was still far too warm and I had no way to control the temperature.
In the morning breakfast was average.
However the surprise came a week later. I recieved a £100 parking fine for the use of the pubs car park which is Pay and Display to the public but signs clearly state giving your car registration to the pub means you don't need to pay. I did this and yet now have a fine, having rung the pub the person I spoke to says my booking has no record of a car registration despite me giving it the man when I checked in. I am now likely to have an extra £100 to pay for this room because of someone's incompetence.
Half Moon Sherborne - noisy
The room was So noisy from below (the bar) to doors banging, & hearing everything from the room above and that was Everything.
The bed was lumpy and terribly uncomfortable, pillows hard and lumpy.
There was no heating when I went (broken and not fixed by the next morning). Breakfast was the worst : cold uncooked tomato, cold unpeeled & uncooked mushroom,. I had to keep finding a member of staff as no one came into the dining room to see toby he guests.
The water for tea was lukewarm & the heater that had been put into the room wasnt working - again I went in search of member of staff. So it was very cold in the dining room. I checked out early.
lovely hotel, very friendly staff , great food not great sleep as very noisy from bar.
The family rooms at this property are situated at the front of the building above the main bar.
The stair case up to the accommodation has a door also leading directly into the main bar. We could not sleep due to the extremely loud noise permeating up from the bar front and via the stair case. The staff were very accommodating and helpful and moved us up one floor to another room also at the front but higher up and with a smaller window and away from the main staircase. The second room was a much nicer room, more suited to a family who needed to be able to get to sleep at a reasonable time. Fighting in the street below as people exited from the bar could still be heard though with language not appropriate for younger children. All this said it was a Saturday night and a large stag party were in attendance. The staff were excellent!!
Very convenient for event we were attending.
Good night's sleep. Sherbourne is a lovely place to visit.
