The 4 star Falcon Hotel perfectly located a short walk away from the newly reopened Royal Shakespeare Theatre in the heart of historic Stratford-Upon-Avon. With parts of the hotel dating back to the 16th Century, it compromises a quintessential Tudor residence. we had 8 hotels during our trip this was the most expensive one.

we had an unpolite welcome at the desk

the bathroom was the tiniest I ever had seen

in the evening I could not reach my car because of 2 inch of water in the car park, nevertheless I had to pay 5 GBP extra for parking.

We arrived at the hotel after a delayed flight from Birmingham - anticipated arriving at 8.00 pm but did not arrive until around 9.30 pm.

We were both tired and in need of some comfort having travelled all day. Following check in we got to our room and proceeded to order some food from room service - not able to find any room service menu I called reception who advised the only food available after 9.00 pm when the restaurant closes would be sandwiches. I was immediately appalled as both hungry, cold and tired and needed something wholesome to eat. The temperature was below zero that night and they didn't even offer hot soup, which is not acceptable and not something I have ever experienced and we stay at a lot of hotels. There is usually always something hot even if this is soup or a pizza and sometimes this then stops at midnight and reverts to sandwiches only. We ordered a sandwich as no other choices and we were too tired to start traipsing the streets but we were not impressed at all. To top off my poor experience at this hotel completely I then discovered the bathroom was freezing cold - the room had been recently renovated but there was no direct heating and the floor was tiled - I was not able to tolerate standing in there without something on my feet so had to put socks on and leave a towel on the floor, which from a health and safety perspective is not great. When I complained to the reception about the food situation she just kept repeating the mantra that the kitchen closed when the restaurant finished serving and that was why there was only a sandwich offering. I was left with the general impression that not for the first time the Chef was determining the service delivery for the hotel to suit his own hours rather than the paying guest. This happens all too often and if I had been staying in a 2 star establishment I would not have been surprised but it is not how the hotel markets itself. It should on this basis be regarded as a 2 or 3 star hotel. I complained again at check-out when asked if I had a good stay etc. At this point the same receptionist offered to get the Manager to speak with me regarding my above complaints. I declined on the basis that I needed him more the night before (no doubt he wasn't there then as he too probably works 9-5 similar to the Chef - and this is also a common experience in hotels). Overall not happy with service and would not recommend to travellers looking for comfort and service. There are plenty of alternatives in Stratford and I would advise you spend your money elsewhere in the town.
