Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel

The hotel was nice, if slightly expensive.

Booked the room as a surprise birthday weekend in Edinburgh, and upgraded to a castle view. View was lovely and a nice addition; the only issue then is that you face on to Princess Street which was loud throughout the day and night. The tram is quite noisy in the early hours of the morning but nothing compared to the merry party-goers in the early AM!!. The hotel is relatively nice but in need of upgrading and attention. The room was ok but the bathroom was very outdated, with tiles and the flooring needing replacement. The bar needs new chairs and carpets as they have no thread or cushioning. It seems that the hotel does well in terms of visitors but all in all it's looking shabby and not really worth the money paid. It's a shame because the location is great and the staff were nice. Also worth noting, the hotel stops serving food quite early which is bad for a city center hotel. Room service consists of only sandwiches which isn't great for such a central hotel!. Nice enough but needs work.

Not worth the money

Arrived early and was told to come back at a specific time.

Registration was very slow but got to leave bags in secure room. Room was packed with furniture sofa was worn on sides. Shower was hard to work to get right temperature, very cheap toilet roll. Breakfast food was luke-warm so not enjoyable. Room was not worth the £130 paid for one night. Only good point is right in the middle of the city.
