Not a good experience
Upon arrival our reservation could not be found, on producing the booking reference we were told that someone else had entered the details into the computer and had not put them in the correct place and we were to have room 1, this turned out to be in the basement with a view through the window of the hotel wall, my wife immediately phoned reception and we were given another room that was a slight improvement, this one overlooked the rear yard.
A step back into the seventies
The outside of the hotel lulls you into a false sense of security as it looks really quite nice.
I couldn't fault the polite and friendly lady on reception either, then it started to go downhill, firstly I was charged £5.00 to park my car. The lady then asked if I would be eating in the restaurant and that I would need to book a table. After looking at the set menu and the table d'hote menu (a total of four choices) I decided to give it a miss. Then came the room. It was like a blast from the past, a big alarm clock / radio stuck on the wall with a black wire running up to it with large white cable pins. Pine effect veneer wardrobes and dresser. I then sat on the bed and thought I had broken my pelvis, the mattress being so thin. Then came the bathroom. I think I remember my parents having the same bath suite fitted in 1976. No shower, a not so clean rubber bath mat and no soap or shower gel provided. Breakfast was good although I had to share a table. I do think people should be told that this hotel is mainly for senior citizens coaching holidays (3 coachloads ) when I visited just not good value for my money.
