The stay was let down by not being advised in advance of the dress code for the restaurant, resulting in us not being able to eat in the restaurant.
While we did have breakfast in the room we had to take a trip into Scarborough for our evening meal.
Nice staff but bit of a disappointment
I specifically booked a room in the main house and was happy with the price I paid for this.
However, upon arrival we were told we were in the courtyard. When I queried this, the booking showed that we should be in the main house but had been moved. We weren't informed of this before arrival. There was no initial reason for this and then we were told it might be because of a water leak in one of the rooms. However, we later found out that there was a wedding booked for the Wednesday, in the middle of our stay and began to wonder if we had been moved because we had obtained the room for almost half the regular price via late rooms and they wanted to get full price for it from another booking. The courtyard room was ok if a little small and the radiators didn't work fully and were lukewarm meaning the room was a little cold. The shower was also lukewarm with poor water pressure. These points were mentioned to the reception desk but nothing was done about them during our stay. The wireless in the courtyard also didn't work and was not fixed after mentioning it to staff. The lounge is nice and warm and cozy, but if there is a large group staying, it gets crowded. The restaurant provided very nice meals on an evening but the breakfast a bit of a let down, with a poor continental selection and the quality of the cooked breakfast was ok at best. All in all, the stay was fine but we stayed away from the hotel more than we probably would have had it been what we had expected.
