Basic friendly accommodation with good food and dog friendly
If you are expecting a quiet weekend retreat then this is not the place to stay.
The landlady is lovely, the food is very good for a pub and they are dog friendly. What lets the accommodation down is the rooms are very basic with no ensuite bathroom. Fortunately there were only two rooms and we were the only people staying so we did have the bathroom to ourselves which is large and adequate. The food is quite a high standard for a pub using mainly local produce. Breakfast was very good and plenty of it. However as it is a pub and the building is very old all the noise from the bar area carries up to the bedrooms. There was a party and a band playing on the Saturday night we stayed and it felt like they were in our room so not very peaceful or restful. There is not much to do in the actual village although very pretty so more of a stopover if you are travelling further. We would probably not stay here again but perfectly adequate if you don't mind staying in a lively pub and want some good food.
Absalute little gem
Me and my partner stayed here on our weekend away from the kids and couldn't be happier with the service.
The land lady is absolutely lovely, kind and friendly and at a bargain price we also got breakfast included with our room. The food was amazing, not something you would expect to come out of a little country pup, we were shocked to find that they also had a variety of gluten free foods available, including the Sunday dinners they serve, which was fantastic as my partner is gluten free, I do think It would benefit the Rose and Crown to advertise this a bit more though. we were a bit unsure about having to share a toilet with other guests but the bathroom was lovely and spacious and kept clean. All in all we had a fantastic time in Dorset made better by having such a nice and friendly place to stay on a night. Thank you again, Mary.
