The Devoncourt Resort
Very helpful and friendly staff....
We stayed at the Devon court hotel in Exmouth.
The front car park was very busy and quite tight for space. There is a nice open style foyer area and the young lady on reception was polite professional and welcoming. As was the young lady on Sunday 4 sept when we left. The young man behind the bar(with slight beard) on (saturday evening 3 sept) was very welcoming as he served us our drinks. He showed that he had some customer service skills. There was a lift which was fairly small but does the job. The glass doors in the corridors were not very wide and were quite heavy and difficult especially when trying to manage a suitcase as well. The apartment sleeps 6. Our party was 4. 2 single beds and a double. One bathroom. Room 111. Other members of our party had room 203. For just the 2 of them but they had 2 bathrooms. Not sure how that works. The decor is tired, possibly refurbished 15 years ago. The wall coverings are marked and stained. Carpet is threadbare in areas. Some stains on the curtains. Sea view over the gardens. The shower took a while to get working (warm enough to have a shower) and the shower tiling surround needs to be addressed. There was an electric wall heater but it did not work. There were complimentary shower gel and shampoo in the bathroom. Also towels supplied. A heated towel rail. The windows in the lounge area had screws protruding from them but functionally they opened and shut. The sea view was pleasant and you could see boats in the distance. Take binoculars. Forgot mine. We had booked a 2 night stay but had to leave after the first night due to family matters. We might stay here again if the price is right. This hotel/apartments reflects so many hotels of this period that we have visited and all in need of some refurbishment. However I understand that to do this they have to make huge profits. While they are all trying to compete for your business they have to keep their prices competitive and so the cycle goes on, or should I say around. If you go along the lines of you get what you pay for, I'm sure you won't be disapointed.
On the plus side, The Reception staff - very polite, professional and welcoming. Bearded guy in the bar - the same. Nice outlook towards the sea. Tennis court, Gym etc. Did not have any time to see or use any of this. Big screen tv in apartment. Breakfast 8-10 weekends. Went down at 9:15 very busy. Some food coming out then shortages. The help yourself buffet was a bit chaotic due to its layout and being in a fairly small area. The cooked breakfast though was very good, especially the bacon, very tasty. All the breakfast staff were very busy but welcoming and happy to take orders such as scrambled eggs etc. The staff were an asset at breakfast. On the negatives; Decor was very tired. Bed (double was uncomfortable) Bedroom tv - wires everywhere. Could not tune it in.
We went in the hotel restaurant for the evening
