About the hotel
With its elegant Jacobean Great Hall, the Visit England four star Thurnham Hall is a 12th-century country estate set in nearly 30 acres of grounds in scenic Lancashire. It features a leisure centre with heated indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, fitness centre and beauty salon, available for a surcharge. The grounds include a picnic area, fishing lake and playground.
Set in either the historic main house or in modern courtyard buildings, the spacious apartments include a well-equipped kitchen with hob, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, kettle and coffee machine. Each apartment has a private bathroom with bath or shower and hairdryer. Freeview TV, a DVD player and iHome alarm clock are also provided. Some apartments have a balcony or terrace. The on-site restaurant and lounge bar provide delicious local and international cuisine in a friendly setting. For your convenience a grocery store is also available on-site. Wi-Fi access is available throughout the property, at an additional cost. The historic university city of Lancaster, with its medieval castle, Maritime Museum and the majestic Williamson Park, is just 5 miles away and local buses stop at the gates of the property. The glorious scenery of the Lake District National Park and the Lune Valley are easily reached in 45 minutes’ drive. What you need to know before you arrive: Most rooms are not in the Hall, but in separate buildings with separate car parks After dark it's very hard to find your way around In the morning breakfast is 9-11am, check out is strictly 10am, don't get too relaxed We spent half an hour driving and stumbling around unlit grounds before we got to our room.
The accommodation was fine, but there was an extra charge for Wifi and breakfast (which wasn't great). In the morning we had a cleaner knocking on the door and then a phone call from Reception before we'd digested breakfast. The receptionist asked if we'd enjoyed our stay - I explained why we hadn't, but all I got was 'check out time is in the welcome pack'. Not the most welcoming place I've stayed at.
