About the hotel

The Borough Arms Hotel and Restaurant is one of the oldest established hotels in the Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Stoke-On-Trent areas, with history dating back to 1783. The hotel is very much of the style associated with a traditional English town centre coaching inn, yet has been sensitively and subtly refined to offer the comfort and modern standards demanded by today's visitors. Close to the centre of the historic borough of Newcastle, The Borough Arms Hotel is convenient for both business and leisure visits to many local attractions, including Alton Towers, the English Peak District, the Staffordshire Potteries, Stoke on Trent, the Staffordshire Moorlands, Cheshire and Derbyshire.

Independently owned and managed, the hotel retains many period features and takes great pride in offering a very personal service. As a valued guest, you may be confident that we will do our utmost to ensure your comfort.

The Borough Arms Hotel

Great little hotel, room was very small and basic but completely functional and fine for the money.

No frills here, but perfectly ok if you just want someplace to put your head down for the night. Bed was comfy enough and bedding was clean. Had to leave early so didn't stay for breakfast but the staff were helpful and friendly.

Disappointing

Upon arrival I was advised by night porter that my room request was not available but I could upgrade for an additional cost per night.

There had been adequate time from placing my booking for the hotel

to contact me to advise of this. I have stayed there quite a few times so would have expected some

contact if there was a problem with the booking. As there were quite a few vacant rooms they really had no issue about placing me in an alternative room without trying to charge more than the booked rate. The member of staff who checked me in agreed with this and after some discussion did not make the 'surcharge'. Room I was allocated not in good condition and some cleanliness issues. Dirty bath, bin with missing lid, generally grubby bathroom, cracked light, stained bed cover, stained carpet, broken shelving, tired mattress that needs replacing. If I hadn't arrived so late I would have gone to alternative accommodation.
