Comfortable and very modern

This hotel is one arm of a larger group that has invested in the entertainment value of a worked-out set of gravel pits.

The rooms have been recently re-modernised (I was told) and are indeed very modern, and brimming with modern technology. For instance, the usual folder in each room with information about the hotel and local features is replaced by a tablet, locked to the hotel, which connects to the hotel's website (and other websites in the group). So you can find out about most of the things you want to know, such as the room service menu and prices, as long as you know how to work a tablet (which of course we all do, if we're modern enough) and as long as the tablet's battery is charged - which in my room, it wasn't, so I couldn't find out anything at all till much later when I'd discovered how to charge it. But anyway, the bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet, which is always a plus. The hotel sprawls somewhat and the rooms are in distributed annexes so expect a fairly long trek to breakfast; but the serve-yourself breakfast offering is perfectly OK, with a reasonable cooked selection and cereals and toast. Likewise, the "Waterfront" (think, gravel-pit-front) bar-restaurant was comfortable, not too expensive, and offered a varied, though somewhat pompous, evening menu - you can check that online too. Overall, a decent hotel to stay in, popular with local societies for meetings, if a little bit over-keen on impressing you with its stylishness.

Staff were lovely.A bit slow at the bar, didn't have any guiness when i arrived for a drink.Room wasn't ready but we were given a complimentary drink.Receptionists were very happy and always smiling which was lovely to see.Resteraunt staff forgot our onion rings and didn't think they came with our meal so had to check i was right before we got them, but were polite.
