Plenty of positives but not worth the money.
This was overall a good experience, although not without its disappointments.
The best aspect of the hotel was its old-fashioned customer service and the effort they have put into the foyer and communal areas, which are very welcoming. Unfortunately, my room was not of the same standard: it was very plain, and I didn't exactly look forward to returning after a day out as it had no atmosphere.
The hotel can't help the narrow streets in which it is located, nor the noise which comes from St Helier on a weekend, but renovation of the rooms could make a real difference, perhaps some warmer colours on the white walls, or better soft furnishings. I might not have minded if it was the cheapest option in St Helier, but I paid over £100 for the room, hoping for a nice treat while staying in Jersey. Another factor was the noise which came from the hotel bar. They have a live singer on a Friday. I could hear every word from my first floor room; personally I didn't mind but it would be no good if you wanted an early night. Parking is available but not easy to find, and I personally found it very stressful having to park temporarily on the street in order to run in to the hotel and ask where to take my car, which involved ignoring a no entry sign on a one way street that I had to drive past twice in before I finally got there. The location of this hotel is very good. In Jersey short distances seem longer to the locals as they are used to a small sense of perspective. In reality it is a 8-9 minute walk into town, which is fine. Some nice restaurants, cafes and corner shops are even closer than that. St Helier is a nightmare to drive around though. The staff are all very professional and polite; they will go the extra mile and help you with anything. Finally, I would have preferred a bath in my room, rather than just a shower. I imagine most of the other clientele would agree, being mainly in their seventies and older.
