self service hotel

We arrived at the time we agreed by email with the hotel to find a dark, empty hotel, a locked door and no staff to greet us or instructions what to do. We let ourselves in with a keycode we were emailed and waited in reception for 10 minutes, ringing the bell and looking around until we spotted a a4 printed piece of paper on the wall with a telephone number. We rang it and spoke to someone in French (luckily I could speak some as they didn't speak English!) who instructed us to go to the first floor, find out key on the rack on the wall and check ourselves in. The rooms were small but clean, bathroom especially small but everything clean and working. The beds however were very uncomfortable with only one, very thin, pillow. The room was also cold and noisy. We had a pretty terrible nights sleep to be honest! We went down for an OK breakfast (good coffee) in the morning and met a receptionist, who was nice, spoke english and checked us out the hotel.
