Ideal location and Welcoming.
We found the Morritt an ideal location, very welcoming with good clean comfortable room and we would stay there again when travelling in the vicinity.
Great hotel, attentive and friendly staff.
Both restaurants superb.
We stayed 3 NightSeptember en route to Scotland, definitely stay again.
The Morritt 2015 style
We have stayed at the Morritt many times before and know the area very well.
The welcome was warm and helpful (cases being carried up ). Room we have stayed in before with views over 2 aspects. Comfortable and warm. Informal dinner in the Dickins bar as cosy as ever. Always a new guest ale 2 try and if you don't fancy it the default is always Timothy Taylor. Food good. Breakfast excellent; unhurried; excellent smoked Haddock with prefect poached eggs (so easy yet so hard !) as was the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. If you have not stayed here before don't be put off by the proximity to the A66 or by the weddings that may be going on around you .. there are plenty of lounges to escape to.
Staff really friendly, food was different but nice.
Room was in the annex and was lovely but you could here neighbour going to toilet every half hour (must have had a good drink) ha. Next time we go we will probably go in bistro for food. X
Had a brilliant meal and an all out great time.
Throughout our stay at this beautiful old characterful hotel which is in a lovely setting, staff were only too happy to help and to ask if every thing was to our satisfaction, they were both friendly and helpful but with one exception, which was the food served in the Bistro.
Our evening meal in the Bistro was far from good. The amount of food on the dinner plate could have easily fit on to a saucer and as if this was not disappointing enough, the food was not in the least bit appetizing. The Hake was watery and did not taste or smell fresh, both the sea leaves and the two small potatoes were under cooked even for my liking, at £12.95 this was not value for money. The sweet offered better value for money as it was larger that the main meal though even this could have been better. At no point during or after this meal did any one ask "How was your meal" in fact it would have been difficult to have even found the opportunity to comment as staff came and went from the table so quickly.
There is a restaurant on the premisses where we ate breakfast which was so much better than our food the previous evening and where staff were very attentive and helpful. The restaurant also serves meals in the evening, though from the menus I would say these were perhaps just items from the bistro menu but of a larger size, hopefully.
excellent all round
We stayed at the morritt in Barnard Castle for my daughters wedding there and could not rate the whole experience enough.
From the organisation of the wedding down to the warmth and friendliness of the staff..the food was excellent as was the accommodation. .infact one of our guests liked it so much that they are planning to renew their vows in there next year. We also went to the spa which equally was excellent. This place is exceptional...first class. . and wholeheartedly recommend a wedding or staying at the hotel.
A lovely hotel, helpful and friendly staff.
However for what we paid I was disappointed - I expected more for the money.
Small bed and uncomfortable, and although the staff were very nice, it was not a four star hotel
The food was expensive for what we had
Chairs and tables moved every night not picked up, but dragged across the floor.
Wedding stopover for 1 night
Small poky little room, cramped shower and noise from the kitchen bins and bottles being moved about at 1am in the morning and 7.30am on the Sunday did little to help lift my view of this hotel.
Only £120 a night so what could I expect. - a lot more than this.
