Over all not bad, some parts of the room need updating i/e the bathroom and the number of TV channels. Room decor good but the common areas need updating.

A tired hotel in need of overhaul. It was clean but 'care worn'.
Had the air of a 1970s building that had seen better days.
It was no cheaper than better maintained chains such as Hilton, Ramadan Jarvis etc., so not good VFM.
It seemed to be a bit of a stag and hen party venue, which made it somewhat rowdy.
Best things were its central location and free parking.

Central, average conditions but friendly staff
This was the 6th time 3 years in a row I've stayed here, very central, friendly staff, rooms are clean, but the rest of the hotel needs a lick of paint, carpet and a bit of decor!

Newgate Hotel - Newcastle Upon Tyne
Odd entrance to hotel with large stairs and odd rooms and corridors before the reception which where also very cold and unfurnished. Not very welcoming. Extremely basic throughout including bar facilities. Decorations and furnishings of hotel and room where very old, out dated and rough looking. Needs a refurb to modernise, brighten and improve facilities. No real nice touches. It did for a 1 nights sleep. Wouldn't stay more than one night. Felt like I was staying in a cheap old B&B rather than a large hotel. Paid discounted rate of £52.25 but not worth more than £30. Definitely not vue you for money. Have stayed in far better for less. Wouldn't receive a star. Overall 3/10. Only thing good about it is its location situated between st James park and train station so was ideal for 1 night stop for the match. Only reason I would stay again is if I couldn't get anywhere in similar location cheaper. On a positive staff were pleasant though.

Faulty Towers
This hotel is in a great location but resembled a back packers lodge rather than a hotel. the whole place is in a poor state of repair, the door to my room did not cloe properly the furnitur was dated to say the least, the heating didnt work. The button for the lift was on the other side of reception where the old lift shaft used to be which incidentally had just been wallpapered over.
