Comfortable stay amongst architectural splendour
This is our second stay at the Palace - last time we had a bigger, more modern room, but I prefer the one we had this time, with high ceiling, original Victorian wall tiles and pillars, and high windows.
The bathroom was on the small size, but spotless, and I think the bed was a standard double, so smaller than we have at home, but very comfy. My only gripe with the room was that the hairdryer looked nearly as old as the hotel, and was decidedly grubby, so I didn't bother.
Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, with a wide range of food on offer and good coffee. Make sure to book it in advance or when you arrive, as it's cheaper than on the day.
Considering the Palace's location on busy Oxford Road, it was quiet at night, apart from the odd train rumbling past. The building is the real star - it's a spectacular monument to Victorian Manchester, with original features everywhere.
An Outstanding Treat
Experience of Manchester's Grandeur
:Fabulous sense of history created by staying in a place which has retained so many original features.
COmfortable king sized bed, amazing proportions in a magical room which made me feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland. Loved it.
Great location would stay again
Interesting building and rooms, great location if you are going to see a band or a show.
The rooms could do with a bit of a spruce on close inspection up for 4 star hotel, but I would definately stay here again
Felt you were in a palace
Lovely big room.
Could be cold in winter
The building is visually remarkable.
Excellent location. Friendly service. Room comfortable but poorly laid out with sockets hidden behind bed and apparently no light switch. (At least that I could find) so had to remove key card from slot to turn lights out at night. Excellent burger and trimmings in bar after late arrival first but breakfasts not so good. Very unevenly cooked sausages and bacon, hard eggs and all rather chucked at plate by servers.
Great Location, Friendly Staff
Fantastic location just minutes walk from Oxford Road train station.
Very friendly staff, whom we didn't require much from, but knew we could approach if anything was wrong. The whole hotel has a very grand feel (but without the grand price tag due to an advance booking!) Room well equipped, Shower was excellent and we had the quietest night's stay we've ever had in a city centre hotel. Could not reccommend enough in terms of location - you have everything on your doorstep and a stunning place to come back to.
Well worth a visit.
I booked a room at The Palace Hotel as a birthday surprise for my husband to be.
The room was exactly as I imagined and I couldn't have been happier when I checked in..
Arranging breakfast through an email was fast and simple and speaking to a member of staff about the special occasion, a happy birthday plate with goodies was in our room on our arrival. Breakfast was lovely as was the surroundings. A stunning place with bags of character. We would definitely stay again should we plan a day out in Manchester in the future
The Palace Hotel
Lovely old building but the road noise.
