Nice area

The setting of hotel was nice and the bar downstairs was great.

The rooms did feel very basic but they had good bathrooms in every room and for the price it is a good hotel.

I really wanted to be positive.....

I had read previous reviews, but I booked this as it was on Roker Harbour and mum used to go there as a little girl, I'd brought her to Sunderland so she could reminisce.

I couldn't fault the staff, they changed our room from the top floor to a lower floor as I'd had a knee op 10 days previously. The evening meal on the first night was great, but staff shortages led us to have to find alternative evening food on the second night. Mum and I both have hearing problems so we didn't mind The music and karaoke. Our room wasn't cleaned, or replenished, (maybe they forgot which room they'd put us in!?) But the most annoying thing is.... no breakfast!. We would have been happy with a little tray of toast, or even breakfast biscuits and a carton of juice if they really don't want to cook in the mornings. I can't believe with the lovely rooms, some with sea views, friendly staff, brilliant evening menu, that they can't provide something. £75 a night just for a bed is very steep.

Ok for short stays

I thought we were booking bed and breakfast originally as it came under bed and breakfast title online.

Would stop here again for a one or two night basis

Homeless Hostel would have been better

This was the worst hotel i have ever stayed in, the rooms were filthy, staff very unhelpful.

I am awaiting a call back from the manager after leaving my number when I left on 22nd March, I phoned the hotel again yesterday to speak to the manager and still awaiting a phone call back.

A little pricey but functional

For a solo traveller a sixty pound room with no food included is a little steep however the hotel is not as bad as previous reviews make out.

The rooms are cold but as long as you put the radiator on on arrival it warms up. The bathroom was pleasant save for the minging bath mat which was unnecessary, other than that the bathroom was lovely. Could do with a mirror in the bedroom but there are great sea views which make up for it. The carpet was marked but obviously well hoovered and clean then. Beds were comfy and the free WiFi and tv were good. I can't comment on noise as I was a guest at a function in the hotel so wasn't in my room till after closing.

Staff Great but not a positive experience.

We thought we had good value for money, with hindsight perhaps not.

Reception was the bar at the public house. Stood there for a while whilst staff took food/drink orders at the bar and took food to tables. When we did get our room (Room 2) the bed was amazing, the centre of the mattress was a good 6 inches below the rest of the bed. Tea Coffee facilities were limited (1 tea bag and no milk) and no hairdryer, which we could have lived with if the room had been good. Complained to bar staff who were excellent and put us into a triple room (Room 7). This room had 3 beds two of which were fine but the third you could feel every spring. No hairdryer so went out and bought one. When we returned after a meal out I got into bed to find one of the beds was damp. sheets were clan mattress was dry but sheets were damp. I can only assume the sheet had been put on before it was dry. No problem I slept on the third bed and had a thoroughly uncomfortable night, Couldn't be bothered to complain again. Staff were great, hotel was clean but I won't be staying there again, Think Mary and Joseph should stick with the barn too!

Not too impressed

The room was clean but when we entered very cold, we were told we had to turn the heating on ourselves.

Some of the lights were not working. While my wife was having a shower all the lights went out and the bathroom was pitch black leaving her very distressed.

Vastly Overpriced

The beds had no mattress protectors and were not correctly made (Sheets should fit and be tucked in) One of our LUXURY twin rooms had a double bed base with a single mattress on it.

There was no milk and the tea bags were not individually wrapped. My room had a faulty radiator so it was freezing cold. I regret not booking at the Travelodge, which I am sure would have been better quality for much less money - even though I,d have had to pay for parking. I will NOT book this hotel again.

Accommodation Review

Good size room but not value for money (Breakfast not included in the £70 cost) .

***10 am checkout***

No soap in the shower or milk with the free tea & coffee facilities. Bar food available downstairs in the pub.
