Reviews - Meland Hotel

3Self Classified Bed and Breakfast Ratings explained
The Meland, 22 Palatine Road, , Blackpool, FY1 4BT
A small B&B catering for families only. We do not welcome stag/hen parties or adult-only-groups. Run by a young family with primary school children, we want to show the 'family friendly side' of Blackpool. We are located in Central Blackpool, a short walk from Blackpool's famous promenade and Coral Island, Sealife, Madame Tussauds and the Tower Experience. Situated in the heart of Blackpool, the Meland is a 'home-away-from-home' B&B. We cater uniquely for families. It is a short 5 minute walk from Central Pier and Blackpool's vibrant town centre and historic Tower. Situated on Palatine Rd about 75yards from Central Drive you are just a 10 minute walk from the town centre with its excellent shopping, elegant Grand Theatre and Winter Gardens. We are within walking distance of Sealife and MMe Tussauds and Primark. Just 15 minutes the other way will bring you to Bloomfield Road, the home of Blackpool FC, and by sea-front tram it is only a short ride to the amusements at Pleasure Beach. We offer a Full English breakfast (Sausage, bacon, fried egg, hash brown and baked beans, plus as much toast as you like!), Tea, coffee, juice and 3 types of cereal are also available in the morning Parking is available at 50 yards at the Palatine Road and Bethseda Road car-parks at a charge and on-street parking is free between 5pm-9am (1 hour max. between 9am-5pm).

Brilliant
The hotel was very comfortable and catered for our needs perfectly. The family that run it are amazing very friendly and make you feel really welcome. Even did our breakfast an hour early for us as my daughter had a early dancing competition. Will defiantly stay there again.

great value for short stays
Centrally located ,on arrival we were greeted by the friendly family. They really accommodated the fact that we had 3 fun loving boys and nothing was a problem for them. Breakfast was great . Would return if back in Blackpool, made a nice change from travel lodge.

Excellent Expirience
This is a classic family bed and breakfast close to the main attractions of Blackpool. The owners are very welcoming and friendly and it felt like we were staying with family instead of a guest house.
We would definitely stay here again and would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Blackpool. It felt like we were the only people there because of the attention that the owners paid to us cannot compliment them enough.

We stayed here as a stopover on our way to start our holiday. It best suited us as we are a family of 5 with one teenager and 2 young children and we were able to all stay in one room at a reasonable price. The couple running the hotel were extremely friendly. However the inside of the property is very rundown and needing a lot of updating. Our family room was very basic and again needing a bit of tlc and was very dusty with cobwebs in the joining cupboard size ensuite. Breakfast was basic but value for money.

ManagementResponse

The Meland Hotel is a B&B, and therefore primarily -like all blackpool B&B's- a family home. It is, like any home these days, expensive to run and as running the B&B is our job, we have to pay all our bills first before we can decide which diy job takes priority: since we bought this home 7 months ago, we have done extensive plumbing, re-wiring and roofing work-which may not be obvious to someone staying with us. It is definitely not run-down, the stair-case has been painted in February and on the top-floor all rooms have been refurbished after the new roof was put on. As we live here with our 2 primary school age children, naturally making our own quarters habitable for them has been high on the list, but the first 3 months we actually lived in the room this family stayed in! The girls still talk to our guests about 'our room'! This particular room has been let almost every night since we opened to the public at easter, and face-to-face reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with families remarking on the cleanliness of the room and en-suite (my husband was taught hospital deep-cleaning in his previous career, so we are confident that the rooms are clean!), and the fact that for £60,- including a breakfast (consisting of 3 types of cereal, bread/toast with butter and jam, readybrek on request, a full english consisting of sausage, bacon, hash brown, fried egg and baked beans, with a choice of juices or milk, plus a choice of tea, coffee, cappuchino or hot chocolate, plus fruit Teas! So, we are definitely not 'basic' for a Blackpool B&B!) You can have a double bed, a bunk-bed, a single-bed and still room for a cot all in one room, we are most definitely 'value for money' and 'family friendly', which is proven by the fact that as high as 90% of all our guests travel as a family! This particular family had booked us as an inexpensive stop-over to their 'proper holiday', so is not representative of virtually all our other families for whom a trip to blackpool is their holiday or weekend-break. What we find is that for families who come to Blackpool once, twice or more times a year, we do stand out as a good b&b with comfy beds, tasty food and everything they value in a Blackpool B&B- but for those guests who perhaps come to Blackpool for the first time, it may escape their attention that the place they are staying in, is someone's family home. If i could put that point across: when you come to us, you are essentially staying -for a modest fee- in our home, and we will do everything we can to make you feel welcome and make your stay memorable for all the right reasons. It sets a Blackpool B&B, and certainly the meland, apart from all larger hotel chains up and down the country, and if you come back year on year, you'll see the décor, the fixtures and fittings and everything else will steadily increase. We are proud of our b&b, and we will always offer a warm welcome to anyone who chooses to stay here and will continue to do this for the 'silent (vast) majority' who do enjoy their stay with us, and do feel we tick all the right boxes! A slight note to laterooms: this family stayed with us on 6th july and one would think if there really had been a pressing issue with cleanliness or otherwise, a sincere customer would not wait that long in writing a review, infact i would hope that rather than waiting at all, they would come to us direct so that any issue may be rectified while they are still with us.
