tour du France weekend

We had difficulty finding accommodation late last summer for the tour weekend.

We did however find a room at Nateby Inn because it was further afield than most places catering for the tour. We were pleasantly suprised at the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was adequate if somewhat small. No TV in the bar was a disappointment especially when the World cup was showing. We ate at the hotel in the evening and found the quality and choice was first class the wine left something to be desired. We had an early start for the Tour and were impressed at the proprietor getting up at 6.30am to ensure we had breakfast. Well done highly recommended.

Lovely Base for a short break

We enjoyed an excellent 3 nights at the Nateby Inn.

This is at the heart of the beautiful and tranquil village of Nateby, yet only a short walk or drive from Kirkby Stephen. The Inn was very clean and tastefully decorated for a relaxing break. The food was excellent - we ate in the Inn for two evenings. The area open to the public was quiet during our stay but I understand it is popular during the summer months. We enjoyed some magnificent country walks around Nateby and Kirkby Stephen and never felt the need to travel further afield. The Inn would be an excellent bases for touring however as it is on the roads to Hawes and Swaledale and less than a mile to the main road connecting with the M6 and Lake District. If you fancy something different in the evening, there was a good selection of places to eat in Kirkby Stephen market square but the food at the Inn is hard to beat. We had the Steak and Ale Pie and Fish Pie which were some of the best I have tasted anywhere. I would definitely hope to return at some point in the future.

Enjoyable stay in an inn with character

Staff were friendly and helpful; room was comfortable and spotless.

On the edge of Kirkby Stephen, this is a good base from which to explore the Eden Valley and Upper Swaledale.
