When I arrived there was no reference from Laterooms about my booking but they made me feel very relaxed and offered to help me get a case out of my car.
They said that there was no problem and that they would sort things out. I had booked a single room but they gave me a room with a double and single bed. There was always a warm welcome on arrival and a happy face to wish you a good day as you left in the morning.
Not recommending..Extortionate price £174 per night, 1960's decor, Excellent Sea View,
We went on an Easter friday.
First impression, hotel reminds you of the older generation hotel where décor is floral wall papers, hotel rooms still use actual keys (instead of card key), takes you nostalgic back into 1960's or very old fashion bed and breakfast feel (except the building obviously very much larger in size). Receptionist greeted us in a professional manner, told us breakfast was between 8am - 9:30am (bit narrow time spread. I would expect longer period like 7am - 10am). Then she asked if I would stay for dinner at the restaurant -I said I weren't sure yet as I haven't seen the menu (and I wanted to go out to the beach and see what's outside ) but the receptionist said will call our room at 6pm to check. (apparently they call every room to check -ok something not I am used to )
Room - wow - excellent sea view. But that is about it, for £178 per night, you get the sea view , and sea view and sea view. The room has décor of 1960's including old skirting board with furniture to match, no air conditioning , no spare plugs for your latest mobile phone chargers (ok I am supposed to be on holidays but I still want to keep my phone on charge so my children can contact me should they need to). I had to unplug their television set and radio set so I get two spare plugs to charge phones for both my wife and I. Bath room is clean but no cleaner than a travelodge (travelodge probably has newer basin, toilet, bath sets), does come with nice toiletries. The shower however was miserable, I expected full power shower like in any half decent hotel, but this shower was dripping with water (ok I am exerggerating abit) instead and temperature fluctuates. The whole hotel including rooms has free Wi-Fi but very very weak..very slow. Sleeping - bed is nice and firm so can't really go wrong, so windows slightly opened (as I like some slight fresh breeze to come into room since there are no air conditioning), lights are off, and you close your eyes in bed, you then realised that there are 2 huge problems: the walls are so thin I can hear (slight) banging and clanging next door (I don't want to imagine what it is!) and the bath panels are so loose that it just makes another (different) clanging noise. So what was not noticeable at first because I was watching the TV suddenly became an orchestra by the time I turned off everything in the room. Sleeping wasn't really possible as I am a very light sleeper and wake easily on slight sound. So even though there was final peace next door but I couldn't stop the repetitive clanging noise in the bath panel in the ensuite. It was quite a long night. Breakfast - a serviced breakfast, with a nice long list of usual choices of breakfast from cereal, porridge to smoked salmon , haddock, eggs benedict and full breakfast. Service was great, we were offered tea/coffee and then toasts then cereal/ fruit salad before servcing our main breakfast . My wife had egg benedict which was nice (can't see how you can go wrong with that ) and then I had the full English breakfast - bacons were lovely none overdone, thick and juicy which is how I like it, however the hash brown was too dry and so was the one sausage (there was only one sausage!) - they were both obviously placed under the heater for too long. Overall if it was a B&B and cost less than £100 then I would give it a four star as the view on its own deserved 2 stars alone, however given this was meant to be a 3 star hotel and I paid £178 - I expect far more for it compare to other hotels I stayed for lesser price . So sorry I won't be returning - no way not for that price its extortionate !!!
The Pines Hotel
Very comfortable stay
Its not cheap. Its a quality hotel with a seaview from your breakfast table and bedroom.
Did not have an evening meal here. We had no complaints.
Travelling with 95 year old mother, our second visit on her request as such a relaxed, caring atmosphere, nothing too much trouble, and situation of hotel gives glorious views over Swanage Bay, good parking, and ideal location for walks on beach and downs for anyone of an active nature!
We really loved the sevice and friendly staff.
We changed rooms as we addded another night. The second room was fab(room 5) the first room a bit tired but still very clean and comfortable. Will be booking again. Breakfast was amazing. Only stayed for one evening meal. A very good experience.
Lovely view,great food,helpful staff.
Our room had lovely sea views over to the Isle of Wight.
The beach is strange as it's privately owned so you can't really stroll along it easily. The lounge area is modern and spacious and our room had a separate section for our son with its own TV- ideal. Food and bar at hotel good but if you want a stroll out to eat , shop etc it is a stretch but you could nip out in car as parking at hotel seems plentiful.
I Pine to be back!
Very pleased with my stay and experience.
Would definitely return and recommend.
Excellent customer service.
We liked our first room with a view of the hills but when we had a problem with low water pressure in our shower we were moved to a superior room with a seaview. Superb views from the restaurant, a huge wholesome breakfast and tasty evening meal, we'll certainly be returning.
We booked for one night at the last minute.
We expected small, single rooms. We were delighted as each had a king-sized bed, in a beautiful room, with a lovely en-suite - small but well stocked. The breakfast was one of the best I've had. Everything was great, except for the noisy air-fan from the kitchens below - although this did switch off at 11pm until 7am. If you're sensitive to noises like that, it's worth checking. The hotel is also very well placed for walking along the coast and into Swanage town.
