Excellent Hotel, lovely surroundings.

Lack of mobile signal in the area is a blessing in disguise

The bedroom was so small!

This was booked last minute admittedly, but to charge £100 for this pokey room was an insult.

The decor was trashy - lots of red, including a horrible red sheepskin rug which had seen better days. By comparison the bathroom was vast, yet with no shower. The furnishings were just generally tacky for what appears on the outset and on the website to be quite a nice 4* hotel. VERY disappointed to say the least. The smell of the cowshed behind the hotel could not be helped but with the hot weather and the window open it was not only smelly but also noisey. Hartington is certainly a deceptive busy little village with a lot of road noise. Also, no proper reception - a hole in the wall with a note to say to go to the bar if unattended, which we did, and waited to be told we were early as Late Rooms had the check in and out times wrong on their website. The whole experience from start to finish was a disappointing shambles so much so we checked out at 9am and went to have breakfast in Buxton, not wanting to give the hotel a penny more!!
