4Self Classified Inn Ratings explained
Whittonstall, , , Consett, DH8 9JN
A warm welcome from Gavin and Karen. The Anchor Inn was taken over by Gavin and Karen Reay in 2007 and it has quickly gained a reputation for its warm welcome, fine food, character and charm. With the recent addition of luxury bed and breakfast accommodation, this traditional pub has lots to offer visitors of all ages. The bar and main restaurant area is large and spacious featuring traditional beams, natural stone walls and log burning stove. All the rooms at the Anchor Inn have been individually furnished to the highest of standards and feature super king size beds (which can be used for double or twin occupancy),solid oak furniture, wall mounted flat screen TV’s, WiFi, Freeview Television. They also have luxury linens, black out blinds, robes, hospitality trays with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, fresh milk and mineral water, complimentary toiletries, hair dryers, hair straighteners, alarm clocks, luggage racks and fabulously, fluffy bath sheets. All four of our rooms are spacious, with King Size Beds, offering exceptional views across the surrounding valley. They all have their own en-suite bathroom, with either a large walk in power shower or bath with power shower, as well as contemporary basins and heated towel rails. Two of the rooms can accommodate an extra bed. An iron/ironing board is available on request. All of the Inn’s linens are suitable for those with allergies also allergy free duvets and pillows are available (please request when booking).

A very enjoyable place
We stayed at the Anchor Inn for a night. The hotel is located in a very nice spot, the food was very good and so was the service.
The room was ok, well furnished but the noise insulation between the rooms could be better.

Over night stay
Stayed one night while visiting friends in the area. No rush to get up for breakfast, served until 11 am. Nice location with ample parking. Would stay again

Quality Accomodation
We booked for two nights, but after we arrived my wife liked the place so much that we stayed an extra two nights. Ample free car parking next to the Inn. Warm and friendly staff. Choice of several breakfasts and evening meals. We found the bed comfortable and the room size adequate.
The bathroom was clean and spotless although my wife had difficulty in getting into the bath because of the high side. Only downside nowhere to walk around in the evening.

Our 4th visit!
Friendly Inn with a real log fire; good beer; lovely food and comfy beds.
The only drawback is that their internet connection is awful - something that they and others in the village are trying to sort out - so fingers crossed that superfast broadband is rolled out to the village.

Food was rather more quantity than quality. None the less, an enjoyable stay
